Oh, and also be careful before you use passwords. They're one time use, and the Pokemon only appear for a month before disappearing. I would suggest not using them until you have a Warlord or Warrior that's capable of forming a Perfect Link with the specific. It's not really THAT important, though, since all password Pokemon are still available through other means. Just something to think about.
I don't even have a 3DS (have a regular DS) and I'm literally dying to play ANYTHING that's coming out during the Summer to make the time go by and this doesn't sound like a bad option. Should pick a copy up during the weekend.
I'm doing what I always do in Pokemon games, which is grind grind grind... With seven nations, I already had a bunch of fully evolved Pokemon. Now I have nine nations, and I need to do some management with my warriors... Trying to keep track of them all in an effort to get them their Perfect Link is almost overwhelming.
I really want it but I spent lots of money on video games recently so I should wait till I get paid next

The main game is really short. Most of the content comes from the post-game episodes, many of which are the same length or longer. Then the final episode is basically the main story again, only harder.
My main team feels so useless. In the last battle I did only half my team did anything. Venipede was just there for poison status. Darumaka was doing well, but not killing anything. Rufflet was the MVP and pretty much stomped everything in its first battle.
Is there a time limit to conquering the kingdoms? I've been trying to fight them somewhat fast in case there is. I already have 9 kingdoms, but no evolved Pokemon still so maybe there's no rush and the time is just for stuff like train/search/develop and random events.
After an... almost... disastrous attempt to to takeover the Shimazu clan, decided to look for Warriors and Perfect Partners. So far, it's very fruitful, I keep finding a new Warrior or a new Perfect Link for somebody. That said, I'm running out of places to put new Warriors at...
Oh, and recruited Ginchiyo and Yoshihiro. Ginchiyo's Shinx evolved for some reason, but hey, a kickass poke is always useful.

She pretty much tried to speedblitz me, so I just ganged up on her before 4 turns passed while the rest of her minions are alive, and for some reason she joined me after the battle. Along with Muneshige.
Yoshihiro, on the other hand, retreated from the battle, but then showed up in a random battle in his city. Maybe Ginchiyo is the same.

Yeah it seems like they show up randomly on the field if you don't get them in the story. I haven't seen the fire nation Warlord show up again though and I don't remember recruiting him. I recruited Shingen's whole army in a single battle aside from his sister too. I didn't even have to fight Kenshin after that for some reason.
To recruit Warlords, you have to land the finishing blow with one of your Warlords. Standard warriors won't do it. But many Warlords can't be recruited until post-game. The Chimchar guy is one of them.
And no, there's no reason to rush the main storyline. Later episodes will punish you if you're too slow, but the first story is basically like a tutorial.

hm... one of my warlords DID get the kill in on Yoshihiro. specifically, because i did the DLC early, as soon as in conquered the water gy-- country (which obviously came after pummeling grass) the two warlords just auto-joined me. and both have a psychic pokemon for no reason at all.
y'know, they made it easy. especially the levitating one.

How far are you? Once you're in control of five nations, you'll gain the ability to link with wild Pokemon. Just move someone next to a wild Pokemon and the Link option will pop up. There are five things to look for. A gold medal means the max link between that particular character and the Pokemon will be 90-100%, a silver medal means 70-89%, and bronze is I think 50-69%. If there's no medal floating over the Pokemon's head, the max will be less than 50%, and if there's an X, that character is incompatible with that Pokemon and can't link with it.
The only way to release a Pokemon is to fill up your roster and link with something new. It'll then ask you to release one of them.

Well the other general rules still apply. You have to either beat them within four turns, with a super-effective attack, or before they deal any damage to you or your allies.
There's no storage, you'll just have to relieve a warrior of duty. Even if you get rid of a warrior, you can get them back later. They'll just go back to wandering around. They'll also retain any Pokemon you gave them, and if any of their Pokemon evolved, those will stick too. Their link percentage will reset, though.

Alright. I'm trying to collect the Warlords and their subordinates right now as best as I can. It's hard to tell the difference between them and random other people you can recruit. I know the Warlords have gold-ish backgrounds and a yellow people icon on the battle map, but I can't see any difference in their underlings from normal random people like the Darumaka guy early on.
I think the earliest the traveling salesmen show up is once you control Illusio/Terrera. You also receive a free Fire, Water, and Thunderstone upon conquering Cragspur (or maybe it was Viperia...).
I don't think so. If there is, I think it might be that the Hero needs to be in one of the nations bordering an enemy, so it might be worth trying that just in case. A messenger will appear telling you one's there.
Since there's no penalty at all for taking too long with the main story, you can just spam the months until one appears. The stones cost 5000 each, so you might want to delegate some nations to Develop if you don't have the cash. Or you can just set them all to Train so your links go up.

Alright. I guess I have to wait for him to randomly show up then. I can challenge Avia, Viperia, Yaksha and Cragspur for the first time where I'm at now. I don't have any Warlords to take advantage of the weaknesses for Cragspur's warlords though really. Kenshin can take care of Kai's, but I have nobody to hit Ujiyasu's weaknesses.
You didn't get the Snivy, Oshawott, or Gurdurr Warlords? The first two require you to download the Wi-Fi episode (and you actually have to do it before you finish the main story if you ever want to recruit them, to my understanding). The Gurdurr guy should now be wandering around like a regular warrior.

yeah, this game basically feels 80% like a Pokemon game, which is good. the 20% is leftover with city management more than anything else. but the way recruitment goes feels... a lot like pokemon.

The evolution stone being merchant is the worst. I don't know if he/she can show up when you have delegations of train/search/develop going on or not. Almost on Year 4 and I haven't seen one though.
