so, I got me3 from that amazon sale a while ago, so I'm replaying the other 2 before starting.
anyway, I just finished 1, and I was wondering whether the "arrival" dlc is worth buying. I know nothing about it. does it tie into 3 or the story in general or is it a random "fight guys" mission like I heard the dlc for me1 was.
I already have shadow broker and the free dlc and anything that gives you a new character.
It is a direct bridge of sorts between the ending of ME2 and the beginning of ME3. The gameplay, however...is not very good. But if you want the full story for the setup of ME3 then go ahead.
You can buy it after finishing ME2 and then play it. Whenever you buy it, playing it after you finish the main ME2 storyline makes the most sense plot wise.

It is worth watching at the least. Gameplay-wise it's somewhat hit or miss. Story-wise it's... not all that great. But it is relevant to the main narrative of the series.
LOTSB is the most important one though, in terms of actual quality. Overlord is also nice, as is Kasumi.
do I have to buy it before I start my playthrough, or can I finish me2, then buy it, then play it with my file and save the progress?
Well, it will tie into ME3 and have some effect on the story. I'd say the events are worth knowing about at least. I want to say it's maybe 1-2 hours, but I honestly don't remember how long it took me.
And no, you can buy it and finish after your playthrough as in ME3 you just straight up transfer an ME2 save file instead of transferring an endgame save. I would probably even recommend playing it after you complete ME2's story, though you can technically play it whenever.
You can play it anytime from just shy of midway through the game onward. In fact, in a rather serious design blunder, you'll get a rather urgent conversation with Admiral Hackett at that near-midway point that you can't even hold off until a more appropriate time. But narrative-wise, it really makes a lot more sense not to go to the planet that starts Arrival until after the end of the main story.
From: gotspork | #011 yeah, I already had all of those other ones you mentioned, but arrival wasn't out yet when I played 2 last.
while we're at it, I got the digital deluxe me3. is there any other dlc worth getting for that game? does any other dlc even exist for it? That comes with "From Ashes", so you're pretty much set unless you get into the multiplayer -- which to be fair, many people do, including plenty who didn't suspect they would. In which case I believe there are a couple of pricetag DLCs out for it already. It seems BioWare/EA are really riding high on the surprise success of their multiplayer, though, because there's at least one more big expansion to it coming out shortly.
also, is there a big benefit to getting max level in 2 before 3? I'm about to import a max level me1 save to me2, and I don't know if that gets you high enough to max me2 in one playthrough.
ME2 is incredibly easy to max if you have as much DLC as you do. With Arrival it will be even easier, but seriously, if you do everything in ME2 you'll be pretty blown away (and possibly a bit disappointed) at how quickly you max, because 2 peaks at 30.
ME3 carries on from that 30, meaning if you're 30 in 2 (and you will be, trust me) you'll be 30 in 3. So you get all those points back and whatnot. You can remap your powers pretty soon into 3, fyi.
From: SythaWarrior | #015 I'd buy the Kasumi Goto DLC. I think of the ones you didn't get that one is the best. I'm under the impression he has the PS3 version, in which case he's set. I could be completely mistaken.
From: gotspork | #018 I have the pc version. otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play through 1.
'she', jeff Ah, sorry. I try not to make gender-biased statements like that but I become overwhelmed by all the other people on the net who do it and wind up a victim of it myself sometimes.

I don't know how they've handled other platforms, but I know the first (and maybe second? has there been a second?) DLC for multi-player was free on 360, and I thought was free everywhere else, until a certain date that's well in the future.
I enjoyed Arrival. It's a bit short but I thought it was fun. Not having any squadmates was an interesting twist.
And yeah, all the multiplayer DLC for ME3 has been free and will continue to be free. EA/Bioware make enough off of the people who choose to buy unlock packs in multiplayer rather than earning up credits that they don't have to charge for the actual multiplayer DLC.
I love the multiplayer. I didn't think I'd get into it like I did but playing as the other races is a blast and when you're with a good team it's incredibly fun.

That's what most tend to say. Still wasn't for me; I'm really just not into that sort of gameplay much. I had a good time of it despite myself though, during the demo period. But I haven't touched it since.
