needs some chrono cross, super metroid, silent hill 1-4, xeno series/10

impressive collection all the same, you might have more video game related CD's than I have CD's period

good job with the CV and Ys.
lacks Guilty Gear or Blazblue though, same for some of the Mana series (Legend especially). still, 8/10.

since every final fantasy game soundtrack is on the us itunes store now, I plan to buy most of them eventually, starting with 1 and going up. the only reason I haven't gotten them yet is that itunes albums don't go out of print like physical cds and I've only ever played a tiny bit of ff7 on pc and ff2 on psp. I also plan to get chrono trigger's full soundtrack at some point.

uematsu final fantasy, mitsuda chrono series, xenogears, I think xenosaga 1...not as familiar with what he's done more recently but chrono cross is one of my favorites ever, I really should look into his newer stuff

Check out Mitsuda's Xenogears OST as well if you get the chance. It's pretty damn good, although probably not quite as good as the Chrono Duology's. But it's got a really neat Middle Eastern flair. It's nifty.

Mitsuda is Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, etc

Uematsu is Final Fantasy (and some of CT)

you need more Yuzo Koshiro too

and since you seem to like Michiru Yamane I recommend the Skullgirls OST

mitsuda did one track for xenoblade and maybe just me but I didn't think it was that strong, but yeah he did have that involvement with xenoblade too and the xenoblade soundtrack is good stuff

nintendo is really annoying with its soundtracks. if they do release them, they usually are only available through japan's club nintendo so they are a ***** to get.

sega is an *** about ever releasing genesis sonic soundtracks for some reason (the only reason 1&2 were released is that the original artist got permission to release them himself on his own label). as for 3d sonics I have 2 compilations with the highlights from those games. most of the complete soundtracks are out of print, but I'll get colors eventually on us itunes.

Mitsuda is best known for Chrono Trigger + Cross and Xenogears, but gears honestly isn't that good; has a couple great tracks but a lot of meh ones too. still, he has explored a decent amount of genres more over the years, which you can see in Xenosaga 1. he also does some Shadow Hearts, though for some reason that's not as well known. other weirder not-as-well-known series are a couple Mario Party games and i think a couple random DS games (Luminous Arc iirc is him. ditto Sands of Destruction - don't play either of these games).

Uematsu is best known for FF but he's also done work outside, the most well known of which is Blue Dragon due to Eternity. he also suffers from the 'handful of great, lots of meh or bad' syndrome.


for other big composers...

Yoko Shimomura is one of the most consistent composers in a soundtrack from start to finish. Legend of Mana being one of her best showings, though she's better known for KH music. Radiant Historia is also her and probably her 2nd best to LoM.

Sakuraba i think you have some on the list. Dark Souls, Star Ocean, Golden Sun, and Tales of series (not all the Tales ones, just a lot of 'em) are his main ones known.


still, i'd say the most lacking composer is Daisuke Ishiwatari. better known as the guy who does Guilty Gear and Blazblue music. for GG, consider going with the Sound Alive album to get a feel of how they sound live (it also has some of the best versions). for game soundtracks in that series i'd also go with Guilty Gear 2; it has 2 volumes, the 2nd of which is mostly him and the 1st someone else (but it's also quite good, despite not being GG-like and is more Fire Emblem-y). for a lesser known game, he also did the music for XBLA/PSN's Hard Corps, a Contra game.

oh I see you do have Ys so there's some Koshiro. Need some Streets of Rage though

...man, how could i forget Sakuraba and Baten Kaitos.
definitely that one for him. those two games are his best, though Dark Souls is his best most recent one. really surprising how he worked that one.
