First of all, I had no idea they were back together. I know they had a falling out sometime in the 90's and that they still hadn't reconciled for the last few games in the series.
Secondly, I'm just super-pumped. I know there probably will never be another Space Quest game, and they don't have the rights to Roger Wilco, but they brought back the narrator from the old series as well as some of the original composers.
Unfortunately I don't know if it looks like they'll be reaching their KickStarter goal. I hope they do; this is one I really want to see happen. Anybody else here old enough to be nostalgic for these sorts of games? I know there are at least some Monkey Island fans here. King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry..... I want more! More!

Also forgot to mention, this involves the voice actors for GladOS and the Sniper from Team Fortress 2. As well as a bunch of people involved with the old series, including the narrator.

I remember following the news of the game's announcement on a Trek website, haha. Go figure. But I was stoked then and now I'm pretty super-stoked. I really hope they meet their goal, but augh, niche-niche-niche!
Yeah, seriously!! I'm doing my best to spread news via word of mouth, but I kinda wish there were a little more time left before the deadline. I'm just hearing about it today, and I'll be a sad panda if it doesn't take off. In their AMA, they say they have a "Plan B" if the KickStarter doesn't work out... but they seem pretty loath to consider it, whatever it is. I'd hate to see this fall apart after all the work they've done.

As would I, man. We'll see. Sometimes these Kickstarter campaigns get a massive boost toward the tail end. You never know. What you're doing is really helpful. I'll spend some time spreading the news around on some geek sites I visit later on today, after I've revised my English paper.
After watching the King's Quest retsupuraes, I can't imagine how anyone can enjoy these games. You literally have to guess at s*** and hope that you didn't accidentally use an item from the first screen of the game that you didn't actually need until the last screen of the game.
Well, to be honest, I've never played a King's Quest game, though I have heard them praised many times, so I'd expect to enjoy them myself. I was always more of a Space Quest and Monkey Island guy.
Space Quest has on occasion been guilty of some of the things you mentioned I guess, to some extent - though never as unforgiving as, say, Police Quest (now there's a game I haven't thought of in years!!). There was one game, early in the series, where the first area had a missable item that you needed much later: a keycode or something. The Guys from Andromeda actually got asked about that in their AMA. I forget what they said, but they definitely weren't defending themselves. That sort of stuff is old hat now.
BUT, they learned their lesson. I don't think any of the later games had any true missables. And they definitely didn't have items that you could "lose" or "consume" before you needed them.
The series definitely evolved towards something more similar to Monkey Island, in which there really was never any way to get perma-stuck (except in Space Quest you could at least die... in fact, the death sequences were often among the more entertaining parts of the game).
Not having enough clues or the ability to work out puzzles based on available information was a problem in a few games, notable SQVI, but that was almost entirely because one of the two creators left in the middle of the game's development.
Now that we're out of the mid-90's, I think developers are a lot more savvy, and I'd be absolutely shocked if it were possible in SpaceVenture to screw yourself over bad enough to need to restart from the beginning. I feel like the genre has really worked itself out of kinks like that. Monkey Island is one series that got it right from the start, and I have no doubt this one will follow their lead in that regard.

They should take a page out of Jane Jensen's book. The way she's developing her games is that she's adding casual mode and classic adventure game modes to her games.(Including the new Gabriel Knight games if the studio she wants does well.) I didn't mind the items that could be missed, I always laughed about those sort of things later on a replay that I didn't pay enough attention or how they were in plain sight the entire time.
Ah man, I remember Gabriel knight. There are new Gabriel Knight games? That's tempting. Now I wanna go back and play all the text adventures and point-and-clicks.
ALL OF THEM.

Not yet. Jane's opening her own studio, and if it goes well she wants to make more. She's already got the kickstarter too, so I'll be supporting her. More GK games have to happen.
