So I'm kind of confused as to why people don't like Yuna's Sphere as much as other moments. It's a really sweet, unexpected moment that really puts a lot of the pilgrammage into perspective by giving us a good look into what was going through Yuna's head near the beginning while we were prancing around carefree saying "Let's beat Sin Let's beat Sin la la la"

Do that many people not like Yuna's Sphere? I don't think that's the case, I think it was just the misfortune of being left at the end.

I'm still mad at Operation Mi'ihen being eliminated so early on but I chalk that up to being left-at-the-end misfortune rather than due to people actively disliking the cinematic...

Calm Lands is the best area (not in a blitzball sphere) in the game though.

Laughing was for giggles, but I'm serious about this one tbqh.

Calm Lands got nothin' on Zanarkand

Plus, we're getting to the point where almost all of the moments left are quite good, so there aren't going to be too many eliminations left that are like "finally that one's gone"

There are plenty of things I like that have gone down far too early, whether it be due to "screwing around" or people mistaking what the scene was. A top 5 scene for me went out in the bottom 5, so I think I have the most right to launch complaints!

I know I know, but I've always seen it as more of an exposition moment. It's explaining the world, and The Sending is just a standard ritual that happens when people die and that this time it was just in a mass scale. At this point, the idea of a Sending doesn't hold as much weight to me. When Operation Mi'ihen happens, then yeah, The Sending begins to define the game. I think the FMV is pretty great, though. Or maybe it's because one of my Top 5 moments of the game comes right before it, so I'm just still hung up on that. I guess other people put a lot more weight on it as a defining moment where I have yet to do so at this point in the game.

I can get down with the Calm Lands. It's got some nice history behind it. Also, you reach there after Yuna comes to the startling realization that everything she has known about Yevon to this point was a lie, yet she still chooses to press on for Spira after coming this close to just giving up. "Yuna's Decision" is an underrated piece of music in the game. I almost liken it to Gran Pulse in FFXIII (though admittedly I don't have TOO much knowledge on the game) in that it finally feels like you have control over everything. You have redefined your mission and marks a new beginning.

Let's see...Where did I leave off? I think...

Meeting the Summoner - This is a decent little moment that probably overstayed its welcome by a bit. A lot of this stuff is cheesy or features some awkward voice acting, like, "I've done it! I have...become a summoner!" and, of course, "You're a bad man!" and "Stay awayyyyyyy from the summoner!" Getting introduced to Yuna and summoning in general was pretty neat though.

Match against the Goers - I actually lost this game the first time I played because I had no idea how blitzball worked and I was using Auto movement. Also, I had failed to get the Jecht Shot earlier. Getting to beat the Goers is pretty satisfying because they're so smug, and Wakka entering the game at the very end, with Tidus deferring to him and letting him finish up his final game, was a nice moment. There's also one of the more awkwardly hilarious out of context quotes during this part, too. "Wakka, you're stiff, man! No, not your face." uhhhhhhhh

Crashing the wedding - Top ten moment for the game, augh why did it get eliminated so early. I love this scene, with Tidus and company sliding down the wires in an awesome FMV (and by the way, if you're one of those people who wonders where Lulu is during that FMV, Kimahri is literally carrying her, so she's there). Then you have to go through a series of rough battles, this being the first time you're introduced to those flamethrower Yevon monks, those machines that kick you, and those machines with the cannons, which are some of the best random enemies in the game. Then you get Yuna's "Believe" moment where she jumps and Valefor comes to her rescue. This is really the moment where the veil for Yevon was completely torn away and you see the ugly truth in its entirety, with an unsent Seymour walking about with no problems and all the monks using the "forbidden machina." Just a great moment.

Laughing scene - So bad it's good. Tidus makes me laugh a lot because of the cheesy stuff he says and does, and this scene is no exception. I almost feel like this is one of those moments where Square's like, "We need to have a scene that we can only have because we use voice acting now," and they came up with...this. Just like the first time you start using anything new, you're bound to have a few..."interesting" experiences, and this is no exception.

Yuna's sphere - Just a really touching moment where you see Yuna laying all her feelings bare, something she didn't do much of during the game because of the seriousness of the Pilgrimage. I think it's kind of strange that she talks about being in love with Tidus already considering this was done on the Mi'ihen Highroad, and they barely knew each other at that point in the game. I could understand her having a crush on the guy, but love? That's just me being nitpicky, but still. It's a nice moment.

Seymour Summons Anima - This is a moment that doesn't stick in my much after I've played FFX, but I'm always a little caught off guard by it when it happens. Up till this point, the party's been doing the anti-fiend fighting, and has been competent at it. They save the SS Liki from Sin, defeat Ochu and Sinspawn Geneaux on Kilika, and then save Yuna from the Al Bhed (not strictly fiends, but whatever), and are even holding their own against the monsters in the Blitzball Arena, bolstered by Auron. But then Seymour summons a depraved looking Aeon which annihilates the fiends with singular blasts, in a beautiful FMV, and leaves everyone, the party included, stunned. The upshot is that Seymour's an immensely powerful summoner who's just saved many lives. But it is later revealed (by, IIRC, a Guado outside Bevelle) that Seymour released the fiends himself, in a scheme to win the admiration of the people. From hero to schemer. Probably a better moment than it gets credit for, largely because it comes before and after more talked about ones (the Luca match, the Auron/Tidus heart-to-heart and the laughing scene).

Via Purifico - After the pulsating action of the attack on Bevelle and the drama of the trial, Via Purifico appears to serve as a kind of reflective period for Yuna. It's the only part of the game where Tidus isn't the field character (I like to imagine that in Zanarkand, at the campfire, Yuna feels compelled to take over the narration, and that's why we see her on the field). But in fact, thanks to the dangerous situation Yuna's thrust into, and the relentless (and beautiful) piano piece in the background, it only amps up the tension. At first, simply surviving is difficult, then you need to find your way through an awkward maze. It's one of the most "non-linear" areas in the game, in so far as it requires exploration to collect all the chests and find each character (one can, of course, in what I perceive as irony, escape the Via Purifico by walking in a straight line). Auron is upset enough about being there that he remarks "I hate this place" - pretty unusual for him to show frustration like that. It culminates in a summoner battle (the only mandatory summoner battle in the game which you can be Game Over'd in) between Yuna and Isarru, who's been sent to finish off the 'traitor'. It's a fitting end to Yuna's escape that she shows her superior skill and defeats him, becoming the only summoner we've seen to be still journeying.

There's also the Evrae Altana bit of the Via Purifico, but who cares about that.

"Sin is Jecht" - The scene where Auron tells Tidus he brought him to Spira for Jecht, and that his father is Sin. After a fairly lengthy period in which Tidus doesn't have any emotional breakdowns, largely because he's been enjoying Luca or focusing on the tournament, this scene herald a transition in focus. The most interesting part of it, I find, is that it's just as difficult for Auron, for whom being a father figure isn't exactly a natural occupation. It's his theme that plays, and his hand that pats Tidus' back.

Battle with Evrae - This fight is a bit of a clearing of the air after perhaps the darkest section of the game (in Home, and the immediate aftermath). Wakka and Auron both have great one liners ("If we lose, you'll die too, buddy!", "The red carpet has teeth.", "The ferryman asks a high price.") before it takes place, and Cid's loose cannon recklessness approach, combined with the thought of fighting thousands of feet in the air on top of a rushing Airship (let's not worry about how they stay on their fight), give the sequence a swashbuckling edge. The fight itself is relatively tough, particularly with the possibility that Evrae's Haste and Stone Gaze counter-attacks fall in line with Poison Breath when his HP is low, catching an unsuspecting player off guard. It's a satisfying battle.

Seymour approves Operation Mi'ihen - "Then pretend I didn't say it." Probably one of the most quoted scenes in FFX. It's the first time the party talks to Seymour, showing us him playing fast and loose with the Yevon textbook, and being very persuasive. At the time, it appears to pose moral questions for Wakka as much as anything else, but looking back on it Tidus can see what Seymour wasn't interested in Yevon. Seems like a moment most people like more than me, really.

Meeting the Summoner - Wow, the scene I got in made it halfway through the contest. It's a sequence that always marks the real start of the game in my mind. Yuna leaves the chamber a summoner, with Tidus having illicitly gained access, then shows off her Aeon to the village, followed by the celebration (around a campfire - compare/contrast the mood with that of the other campfire). It sticks in the mind most obviously as being Yuna's introduction, where Tidus' interest in her is made evident (see the Aurochs chanting "Victory/Victory/Victory/Yeah!" while he stares), but it's also where we see the first summoning dance and animation, and Kimahri catching Yuna after she faints. You know what else is notable about this scene? I believe Yuna summoning Valefor is the only time in the game where the title music - The Summoning, linked below - is played during the game. I think that's an intentional acknowledgement that Yuna's story, at least, begins here. Also noteworthy (though this is an earlier point really), is the massive clash between the world of Besaid Village/Temple and (Dream) Zanarkand.

Match against The Goers - It's the big match, hyped up since Kilika Temple! Wakka retiring as captain - and leaving a signing off message - is quite a touching moment, probably the most memorable part. I like that Tidus comes off to let Wakka on at the end too. The match itself is a lot of fun once you're good enough to compete, but I imagine most people get slaughtered first time through. Winning the cup and Strength Sphere is nice, but it'd have been so much better if you got to see the Goers variously whining and bickering over their defeat.

I'll do more later.
