In most games, a shotgun loses its lethal range if the target is standing more than 15-or-so feet away. That... can't be the case in real life. What's the kill range for most shotguns irl? Gun nuts, your wisdom, please.

Depends on the gauge, shot, choke and so forth (choke exchanges spread for effective distance). Plus, in real life a lucky pellet can still hit somebody right and kill them at a greater range than the regular "effective" distance.

A 12-gauge with high choke can probably be "effective" all the way out to 50 yards or more.
