Well, obviously nothing is certain with Sharapova, but she's been consistent enough over the past year or so that it's kinda hard to be against her right now. The only other consistent player in the field that's at her level right now is Azarenka.

Heather Watson won her first round match, having come through three rounds of qualifying. I've always thought she was a better prospect than Robson - she has good defense and movement, solid mental strength, and with a bit more power will be a genuine threat to most players. Seems to be getting there. Hope she gives Goerges a good match.

Did anyone watch the Federer match?

Did Ungur just go crazy to win that set or was Fed slipping? Or was he just taking it easy?

I'm a little curious as to why he dropped a set. I thought Federer has looked absolutely amazing lately (as much as it pains me to say it) and I've been expecting him to surprise people this year.

The disgusting thing is that I think he could POSSIBLY even take out Rafa if he was playing as well as he's been recently, but not after a semi-final match against Djok unless Djok majorly jobs. But he (Novak) has so much riding on this major as well that that semi-final is going to be completely in the air. But as long as it's as intense as it looks like it's shaping up to me then Rafa is going to have a much easier road to the finals. He'll be playing what, Isner or Murray in the semis?


I have little lover for Federer, but I think the BEST possible final scenario is for Djokovic to get randomed out before the semis and for Federer to go into the finals well rested. If that happens we'll see an amazing final.

2nd best scenario is the flip of that and for Federer to get randomed out. But that could backfire. Novak has been playing relaxed so far, but if he's actually IN the finals to completely a perfect grand slam he might step his game in a big way or he might just fail completely -_-''.

I think the commentators on that match hit the nail on the head when they said that Federer was just losing interest in the match in the third set. Why bother putting effort in? Just wait for your opponent to make a mistake on one of his service games, then ride the break to a win. Ungur just didn't make any egregious mistakes in the third set and Federer got a little sloppy in the tiebreak.

I can't see beyond Djokovic/Nadal, really, and never have at any point. Federer needs his best tennis, and his best endurance, to stand a chance against Djokovic, and as much as anything else, I'm not sure he's sure he can do it over 5 sets on clay anymore. Nadal is basically invincible over five sets on clay, unless he's injured or the conditions make for very un-clay-like play. If Djokovic beats him in the final it'll be the crowning achievement of his career so far.

Murray 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-2 Nieminen

Murray wins with 55.3% of the the points.

Murray's camp wanted him to quit during the first set due to a back injury, which looked too painful to play through. Nieminen won 10 of the first 13 games, but once Murray put a little pressure on him he fell apart, winning only 3 of the last 19. Weird match. Murray might pull out of the tournament (to preserve himself for Wimbledon/Olympics).
