Hey everyone! This is the results and discussion topic for my newest contest, Best TV Episode Ever. Half the bracket will be drama episodes, half the bracket will be comedy episodes... and the winners of each side will face off in the final match! The nomination phase went really well, so expect plenty of great episodes and difficult choices.
I don't have a bracket complete yet - though it's getting pretty close! - but I can reveal the most nominated episodes on each board:
Most nominated on Poll of the Day: Blink (Doctor Who)/Sozin's Comet (Avatar: The Last Airbender)/The Eleventh Hour (Doctor Who) [4 noms each] Most nominated on Current Events: Once More, With Feeling (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) [3 noms] Most nominated on Television: Cable and Satellite: Everyone's Waiting (Six Feet Under) [8 noms] Most nominated on Television: Broadcast TV: Through the Looking Glass (Lost) [11 noms] Most nominated on Board 8: Baelor (Game of Thrones)/Once More, With Feeling (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) [6 noms each]
And though I haven't finished sorting everything out yet, I believe these are the top ten most nominated episodes:
Lost, "Through the Looking Glass" - 22 Breaking Bad, "Crawl Space" - 17 Six Feet Under, "Everyone's Waiting" - 16 Doctor Who, "Blink" - 16 Community, "Remedial Chaos Theory" - 15 Community, "Modern Warfare" - 15 Lost, "The Constant" - 15 Game of Thrones, "Baelor" - 15 Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Once More, With Feeling" - 13 Scrubs, "My Screw Up" - 13
A great lineup, right? The competition's gonna be fierce! I'll be updating the thread with more info as I get it, and hopefully a bracket tomorrow. Thanks for all your nominations!

I will say, some shows are more about the serialized nature than others, so Game of Thrones picking one particular episode like say Baelor over others, well it's pretty tough to choose. I just nommed that one since it was one in the thread, ha I mean it's episode 9 in an ongoing story, and well I guess I like 10 as much if not more? So in a way, I'm sure that will just get votes for fans of the series in general.
Still, seperating the episode from the series itself for these things, not gonna happen to that much of a degree I think, fans will vote for shows they dig.

That is the one disappointing thing about a format like this - certain shows definitely benefit from the format more than others. Like, I'm a huge Entourage fan, but I think of the show as several seasons, rather than a whole bunch of episodes. So, picking out single episodes to nominate was pretty tough, since they all kind of blend together.
I also agree that people will frequently vote for the shows they like, but it'll be interesting to see where people draw the line in that regard! For instance, I like Frasier much more than Modern Family, but I'd still vote for "Fizbo" over any Frasier episode.

I should have the bracket up in a few minutes! A couple notes, though:
-I decided to make it a 64-episode bracket, as opposed to a 128-episode one. That way, there won't be a bunch of fodder. -I decided to limit it to three episodes per series.

It's a nice lineup, eh? It was pretty tough to limit it to just 32 drama episodes, but all in all, I feel like this is a great bracket. Let me know what you think!

It's going to cause me pain to vote for a Lost episode over a Breaking Bad episode in Round 2, but TTLG continues to be one of my favorite episodes of anything ever. Actually, Face Off is really damn good, too. This may be tough if it comes to it.
(4)Lost - The End
Dammit, people! No way this is a top 3 Lost episode, even if you do like the ending.
24 Day 2 didn't make it? Damn, that ep was way better >_>
Was it the one with the Mason speech? I regret not nominating that, now that I think about it.

IN: The Wire, "Final Grades" Fringe, "Peter" Lost, "The Constant" Community, "Remedial Chaos Theory"
REP: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Passion" (Double) House, "Broken" Friday Night Lights, "The Son" Friday Night Lights, "Pilot" Angel, "A Hole in the World"
OUT: Awake, "Pilot" The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, "September 20, 2001" Homeland, "The Vest" Supernatural, "Changing Channels" ER, "Love's Labor Lost" (Double) Survivor, "Borneo Finale"
Wonder what could've been with double the nominations and double the brackets, mwahahaha.

The Lost finale was actually only nominated on the Television: Broadcast TV board... but it received a whopping nine nominations there! It was way ahead of the #4 Lost episode, just from the board alone.
The Survivor: Borneo finale almost made it, as well as Middle Ground, but I just couldn't find room for them. Middle Ground was going to be one of the 8-seeds, but then I realized that the bracket didn't have a single Sopranos episode... and since College got the same amount of nominations as Middle Ground, IIRC, I figured it'd be best to include it instead.
As for my nominations... I only had two make it! Placebo Effect and One Day in the Valley made the bracket, but none of my other noms did. I was very disappointed that I had to leave Development Arrested out, but Good Grief outdid it by a hair in the nomination phase.

No Babylon 5 is painful. People need to watch better shows.
Babylon 5 is one of my favorite shows and I used 4 noms for it, but it's not like the individual episodes are significantly better than most of the ones on this list. So I don't find it's exclusion as painful here as I usually do.
More people should watch it, though. This much is true.

-A solid debut for Breaking Bad in this contest. It lost the Broadcast TV board quite handily, but Spartacus received little to no support on the other boards.

I will never understand the Broadcast TV board. Never.

Have you SEEN Spartacus? That finale was the best action episode of TV in the past decade.

Me: www.twitter.com/tvisgreat Why aren't you watching Raising Hope?
Broadcast TV generally has good taste, IMO. I think they were the biggest supporters of Sterling Archer during the Sitcom Character contest - what more could you ask for? :P

ANd yeah, you and me both. Not having nominations all in one spot really did kinda make us honest since we didnt know how the other nom topics were going.

I kinda dont think you shouldve split it up like this-- but then again comedy is probably stronger over all, its just that drama did better in noms
I'm actually pretty glad I went ahead and separated the two. Like those who suggested it told me, it's easier to compare drama episodes to other dramas, and comedy episodes to other comedies. Plus, having 32 of each helped keep the bracket relatively fodder-free, while also preventing dramas from overpowering the comedies in terms of bracket representation.
But I don't know, maybe it would have been better if I mixed the two. I'm not really sure - this bracket was definitely trickier to make than the sitcom character one.

Suggestion:
Put Season x Episode numbers in the OP.
Not that it's entirely necessary, but it's a matter of convenience.
Good idea! I'll implement that in the future.

I didn't say they had bad taste here, though the way I phrased my comment I can see why it would be taken that way. I'm just not sure how they so frequently and collectively have a very different opinion than everyone else. It's uncanny.
"The End" has no right to be considered a top 3 Lost episode, though. I will stick with that opinion to my death.

Haha! I see what you mean now. It's kind of like how, in the Battle of the Bands contest, it was always the metal board vs. the world.
Speaking of which, I miss Battle of the Bands. :( Hope it comes back eventually.

(1)Doctor Who, "Blink" - 29 (69.05%) > (8)Avatar: The Last Airbender, "Sozin's Comet" - 13 (30.95%)
-Maybe it's just me, but this seems like kind of an underperformance on Avatar's behalf.
(5)The Wire, "Final Grades" - 30 (54.55%) > (4)Lost, "The End" - 25 (45.45%)
-Our first close match! The End managed to eat into Final Grades' percentage quite a bit, as the day went on... but in the end, the massive early-vote push for Final Grades was too much for it to handle. In particular, FG did great on Board 8.
