What is League of Legends? League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. An overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:
There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team. There is also The Crystal Scar, the map currently used for the Dominion game mode. The Dominion overhead view looks like this:
Okay I am in game! How do I chat with AWESOME BOARD 8ERS LIKE Forceful Dragon and Lopen! On your sidebar, there's a chat rooms option. You can choose to join a custom chat room. Just type in "board 8" and it will put you in there. Then in your options menu, which looks like a gear, you can set the option to auto-join.
What are Champions? Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.
What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything? When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win. Your summoner level also determines: (1) How many runes you can slot and (2) How many mastery points you can allot
If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.
What is IP again? IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, thats right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.
And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.
To sum up: You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level) You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots) You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)
This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesnt quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post: (1) Your GameFAQs name (2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name) (3) Your preferred champions. Its just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.
And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly. Or, you know, add it yourself.
Remember: If you wish to see your player information updated, please bold the information so we will see it.

I am really hating playing normal blind but I don't have enough champs for any sort of draft atm. I will own two or three games then get owned two or three games and repeat. Why the hell can't I settle at a decent level that is somewhat challenging but not ridicolously challenging. (I am only talking about personal performance and not overall team performance)

Saintvicious left CLG for Curse because Hotshot picked Voyboy up from Dignitas and decided he would jungle for CLG and wanted saint to lead their B-team. Curse's jungler, Crumbz, is now Dignitas's solo top.
So all three teams basically have to get their s*** together and probably won't reach max potential for some time.
-- I like how each new topic you make reveals such varied facets of your idiocy. - foolmo [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE]
Dignitas and Curse will have easier times moving on then CLG will. Crumbz is an excellent top and honestly fits in well with the rest of Dignitas. Saint is one of the best junglers in the world, he was the one guy on CLG who didn't want to kick Elementz off, so they likely get along on some level already. Meanwhile. Voyboy will have to adapt a lot to mesh in with CLG's gameplay and Hotshot has to learn a role that he never really played much of. But yea TSM and Epik will likely beat up all of them in the next tourny.
Man, some of the reactions to the patch being delayed are crazy. Some people's sense of entitlement over essentially free entertainment has always puzzled me.
I do think that Hotshot needs a lot of practice in the jungle, definitely. But I'm excited to see Voyboy on CLG, and I never much cared for SV anyway. He's got skill, but he's almost as much of a dick as OddOne.

I think the constant rotation of players is funny. It's like a real sport now!
Feuds, drama, divas!
VoyBoy does NOT work with CLG's style of farm, play safe, won fights late. That dude is the most aggro top laner around and makes big plays but also bit mistakes. Saint can work anywhere, he's a great jungler and those guys mesh with teams the easiest it seems.
As for best solo mid, my vote is for Froggen when he gets Anivia and BigFat for anyone else.

Jacky Veigar is really scary. Pretty sure Ocelote Cassio is also a terror. Scarra on Soraka is also up there. There is a reason Dignitas only lost when teams banned Soraka last tourny.
Nautilus is over powered right now. At level 3, with red buff, he can snare you, hit W and hit you again with 2 DOTs, slow you with E and red buff, pull you back when you flash, then chain slow you the whole way back.
At level 6 it just gets more ridiculous and his turret dives with a full W up are just silly.

Nautilus got attention as being really solid and strong, and then nobody bothered playing him. I remember jungler from TD playing him in a tourney a few months ago, and now lots of people picking him up. There are so many champions now, and so many of them are still totally viable, that a legit reason for not seeing some of them is just "nobody has been playing them recently". Pros don't want to try and practice 13 champions all at once.
Also, silences stop channel ults. Startup to Fiddle's ult, Galio's Ult, Karth ult, Shen's ult, all stopped by silence.
Pros use who they know works with the lowest risk highest reward. Everyone else uses who they see the pros use. Then the pros use new champs to counter the current ones then normal people copy that.
Dignitas is one of the few pro teams willing to try something new.

mTw.NA still breaks out Jarvan/Leona when the situation calls for it. CLG ran Blitzstar bot lane at Hanover iirc. But yeah no teams come up with new strats on the same level as dignitas.
opinions on my Malphite build for solo top since I completely redid it for more ap? Regrowth+HP pot>Philo's stone(don't sell till have other five slots full)>Kage's lucky pick>boots2(most likely the magic pen ones)>Frozen Heart>Abyssal Sceptor>Sunfire Cape>Morello's Evil Tome>FoN. With of course there being mods and stuff depending on how much AD vs AP the opponent has. 0/23/7(when I get to a high enough level to have them all) masteries. Flash+Teleport(I am tempted to take this one out though and put either exhaust or ignite. IF I do so it becomes 1/22/7 masteries) Magic pen marks Flat armor seals Scaling mr glyphs movement speed quints(which I don't have yet)

Void Staff before deathcap is probably not the best idea, any tanks or bruisers won't have as much MR as they would later in their build. Carries that don't build MR will only lose 12 of their innate 30 from a Void Staff, whereas Rabadon's will give you at least 180 AP. Granted VS is cheaper, but still.
Also, Blue buff CDR is 25%, so once you grab Ionian Boots you'll hit the cap w/ blue, and the masteries/runes will be wasted. I know you won't always have blue, but something to keep in mind.
I know like nothing about Malphite so I don't even know what to say about that.
The new TSM.EVO team is really strong, I like what I saw this past game. Good stuff, glad to see my boy Nhat Nguyen doing well. Salce also made some great decisions, really strong performance.

What are some good choices for Reds on Lux aside from AD and Mpen?

Well if blue buff is 20% cdr then my friends have lied to me, sorry. As for marks there really are no better alternatives for Lux since AD and MPen marks are already so strong. You could run something like MR but I think you'd be better off just biting the bullet and taking AD or MPen. I'd personally go MPen but that's up to you.

From: AfroSquirrel | #027 I think it's time to revisit my Lux build now that I'm getting a better concept of defense and defensepen.
Grab CDR masteries and runes, as well as blue buff when possible. Boots+pots -> Double rings -> CDR boots and Void Staff -> Dcap -> whatever.

From: AfroSquirrel | #032 Well, that will let me swap to AD runes for last-hitting or something. What are some good choices for Reds on Lux aside from AD and Mpen?
I'm not a fan, personally. Lux's cooldowns are long, but she's a burst mage more than a DPS mage. You shouldn't need AD on any of your runes, to put it bluntly. People like to run AD reds instead of Armor Pen reds on AD carries because it's similar damage output but easier last hitting. For a mage, you're trading damage for easier last hitting; what you should do instead is just get better at last hitting.
As for my build, I actually don't get much CDR at all. I run MPen reds, mana regen per level yellows, flat MR blues, and flat AP quints. Boots into 2 Doran's Rings and Sorc Shoes, followed by a Deathcap. Note that I'm still at 4% CDR at that point, unless I have blue. The thing about building Ionian Boots is that CDR is an incredibly easy stat to itemize for, while MPen is very rare. I would prefer to do more damage on my spells that hit than being able to throw out more spells; you'll run out of mana pretty fast if you constantly spam spells in lane.
To be fair though, my Lux build keeps changing. I used to get Morello's before it was changed for the CDR; I don't really want Deathfire because it requires getting close to my opponents. I tend to go Deathcap -> Void Staff -> Lich Bane, switching the last two if they don't build MR. By that time the game's usually over anyway.

From: TheConductorSix | #040 God, Support is so much fun when your carry is apt.
Like, when they follow up on your aggression and watch the map so you dont have to ping 100 times for every single gank.
The ones who position BEHIND you so that Ashe arrows hit Taric and not them.
I don't know why people don't like Support. So much fun.
because when things start to go wrong, you have very little game-changing impact unless you're like janna or something
-- ~Acting on Impulse~ Black Turtle still didn't MAJORA'S MASK

From: McBonesII | #043 Athene's Unholy Grail will have CDR, you could look into that! Chalice would serve the function of double Doran's quite well.
Hmm, you're right. I'll have to experiment with that this week!
Dang guys, have you ever had a game where all 5 enemies left? It was super eerie for a while, until we finally cv'd the summoner platform. We ended up with a 16 minute win.
When things go bad no one really has control on the game.
If I'm a carry and I rocked my lane it means nothing if the enemy is so fed they can swan dive me without fear. Supports ensure that the strongest champion on your team is stronger than theirs. That effects the game in a massive way.
Not only that but good warding keeps their jungler down and good pink warding keeps your jungler up. I really love the role; I've found it easier to win as a support with Bad carry over being a carry with a bad support.

hm I was tempted with ZH but a lot of people on the main LoL board here said it was a bad idea >_> and I like the cooldown reduction+extra mana regen+it builds out of kage's. Also exhaust or ignite. Which would be better on Malphite
