They basically just changed Brawl to be more like Melee. The best part is, you don't even need to hack your wii, all you need is an SD card and you can run it without putting homebrew channel or anything on there. It's got new stages, music, all kinds of cool stuff.
how much did they mess with peach? because honestly i think i like her brawl incarnation much better than her melee one. it looks like they buffed her dsmash--i hope it's not stupid again!

I actually tried it/won a tournament for it last week. It didn't seem to be hardcore Melee since I was the only Brawl-only player in the tourney. The skill transfer is confusing to me.

the top tiers from melee are pretty much 99% the same as melee. everyone else is decently changed. who did you use?
From: paperwarior | #006 I'll definitely try this when it's complete.
it wont be complete for awhile, but it feels complete enough already. if you're interested, give it a shot now. unless you just want to use a character who's not in yet.
I used Bowser because he seemed Brawl-like enough for me to get comfortable and just adjust to his kill moves/ frame changes. But Eggz (who is quite the filth-mongerer in Melee) was there and if it's supposed to be Melee then it should have been unsolicited butt-rape with his Fox present in the bracket.

Why did your other post get modded?

My guess would be not only new characters, but balance. I won a tournament with f***ing Bowser, so they've got that at least. But as a whole I agree, just play Melee, stop trying to live your unfulfilled dreams through all this hacking.

watching a marth video and seeing that they gave him his old B attack, I gotta wonder...if they're going to just make all the old characters pretty much exactly like they were in melee...why not just play melee?
It seems like they kept pretty much nothing from Brawl, save for a few buffs (Peach's utilt and sliding while throwing turnips) and changed everything back to the way it was in the previous game.
If it were me heading this project, I'd make the engine itself more like Melee (as they have), but keep specific changes to the characters' attacks as they were (barring the required adjustments for Melee's mechanics); Marth would still have his B stab, Sheik's fair would not be back to as good as it was before,Peach's second jump would still be low, etc. Hell, I'd probably even heavily consider leaving in Brawl's edge-latching mechanic!
The way things look, I wouldn't be surprised if they even got rid of all characters being able to grab the edge with their back turned!
I guess my point is if you're going to basically just make everyone pretty much EXACTLY like they were in Melee...what's the damn point? If that makes sense.
And don't say "new characters" because I will stomp on your nuts.

It's mostly the high/top tier characters that are extremely similar to their Melee counterparts. Try the new Bowser, for example. And honestly, seeing what they did to the Brawl characters is pretty damn cool. Just look at ROB, or Lucario, or Snake, or hell, all of them.

I may laugh at my own jokes, but I don't dare laugh at SuperNiceDog!
That's true, I guess I didn't actually factor in the non-marth/peach/sheik/fox characters, heh.
Still, I dunno, the unwillingness to move on from beloved characters (i.e. characters that people actually cared to play) irks me in some weird way. Maybe I'm just a sourpuss.

what do you mean by brawls edge latching mechanic? ledge mechanics are largely unchanged from brawl AFAIK
and new snake isnt fun in a brawl sense. he's played very differently now. I played a very good one earlier today, he's mainly about pressuring with his up b for easy combos at low %s and then planting mines around the field and pressuring people onto them at higher percents. he can move during his grab like DK now which helps him a lot in that regard.
I presume the "edge-latching" refers to edge-snapping on UpBs, which as much as I love it doesn't fit in well with Melee physics, given the inability of most to grab the ledge behind them, and the overall worse recovery of most making trying to edge-guard like in Brawl a near suicide mission every time.
