Spoilers for ME1 and up to whatever parts of ME2 I'm on.
*ME2. I'm on PS3 so I'm skipping ME1 but I did blaze through a playthrough of it so this is my first foray into the series as a player. I'm pretty excited about this even though I normally dislike sci-fi/fantasy stuff.
So it's my understanding that if you're not strong enough or something, you can actually die in the ending and will not be able to continue from that point? >_> I would get so pissed off if that happens...
So about the... alignment system, (?) is it based off a spectrum where if I go toward one side, I get further away from the other side or can I just stack up points for both sides where the two sides are kind of exclusive of each other?
You can earn points for both, but unless you stick almost exclusively to one or the other you won't have enough points to unlock some of the later choices.

Yeah, for ME2, it's in your best interests to be completely one or the other. Mixing it up or picking a neutral choice hurts your chances at making certain choices later on.
Also default Shep the best if you're playing Male Shep.
(Also, make sure you download the Cerberus Pack that lets you do the interactive comic thing where you can make some ME1 related choices so you don't end up with things like Wrex being dead by default)

Did I have to do this before I started the game?
Also I skipped making an EA online profile. Does that affect me in anyway?
Well, it comes with both DLC characters and their missions (Zaeed and Kasumi), in addition to some other DLC missions and equipment, so it's worth the price.

I'm going to return this used version and pick up a new one since they're almost the same price. This could all have been avoided if the guy just gave me the new version like I asked!
Oh...maybe not. I downloaded the ~600 MB file. I have to install it separately? Where's the option for that? When I go to DLC section it just takes me to the PSN store.
I can't believe it took me like 3 hours after I bought it to actually get to play the game.
Okay is it possible to die on the tutorial level? Because I think I almost did. >_>
The controls seem a bit more sensitive than my liking. Especially since you do things with the analog stick. I suppose I'll get used to it.
I've never played a shooter this gen so I will be really bad at that part of this game.
Am I supposed to be able to see the number of good/bad points I have? I see the two little charts but I'm not noticing anything to indicate what level of points I'm at.
And is it just my tv or does the text seem a bit small in this game?
LOL moment: Miranda shows up after everyone thinks she's dead and caps Wilson in the face. Which is completely fine with me since the guy was starting to bug me. He immediately suggests Miranda's a traitor if she's not dead and the tone he said it with just made him seem like an overall douche. So completely unaffected when he died and I even made my character respond accordingly.
Dialogue choices are currently being chosen based on gut feeling/personal emotional response but I'll try to stick to one path in the future.
Side note: Jacob and Miranda are both incredibly hot and I would not mind sexing them up later depending on if the game allows it or not.
As a female Shepard you'll be stuck with Jacob out of the two of those, and I should warn you his romance gets kind of shafted in ME3. I won't make any sort of ME3 statements beyond that probably, since spoilers are a big no-no for a series this tightly-written, but you should really be aware of that one in advance.
By the way, how did you like ME1 based on watching it? What sort of character was the Shepard you saw? Also, big suggestion -- look up 'Commander Shepard Is a Jerk' (specifically the ME1 one since you're playing ME2, obviously) on YouTube if the uploader whose run you watched was mostly Paragon. Renegade Shepard is absolutely hilarious.

I watched a mostly renegade fem Shepard. The options to just hit them to shut them up are hilarious but just killing people gets old and I would actually want to avoid combat unless it's necessary. I guess that's the downside of being a badass. =/
The first third(?) of the game, I was really into the story. Characters/sidequests and alien physiology/customs all very interesting and I've mentioned before but I am not a big sci-fi fan. So I was surprised how much I liked the universe and functions of it.
I started losing some interest as it went on but that may just be my short attention span. I don't regularly play long games for that reason. Kept drawing parallels to Jade Empire since that's the only other Bioware game I've played. Biggest moment of impact was choosing between Kaidan/Ashley. Got a pretty big "WTF" moment from me.
Overall the game seemed pretty cool but I skipped a lot of the actual gameplay parts outside conversations/dialogue choices so I'm not sure how my reaction to it would have differed if I had actually played it.
Those driving sections looked like SUCH a pain btw.
lmfao I forgot about the 'disconnecting on the council' options especially the one they give you right after one of them says 'don't think about disconnecting.' Not really revolutionary but just the fact that you personally have the option to do it is hilarious.
Okay so a lot of things happened. I'm still trying to get settled down and get comfortable with the controls/layouts/interfaces and stuff. I feel like I'm missing a lot of stuff like collectibles.
Talked to Miranda and Jacob after the briefing with the Illusive Man. Jacob seems nice but Miranda's acting a little cold. =/
First official mission time? I bumble around for a while and I find some pants? Is this usable equipment or just money?

For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to get my crewmates on to the arrows. >_>
How does this Overload thing work? Miranda keeps telling me to use it and I hold down the trigger to pop up the menu but it's not there anymore? I just ended up shooting the big robot until it died.

NEW SHIP! Kind of big... and I feel like this machine helper is going to get annoying. There's a lot of areas that are closed off. I'd probably get lost even more. It looks like you can't do anything in the bathroom? I tried both.
I went looking around more. Went down to the Engineering Room on accident because I was trying to go to the Crew Room to talk with Miranda and the engineers were talking about how they couldn't believe Shepard had actually come down to see them. Awwwkward.
Got some new missions. Picking up groceries and some extra parts.
Also met with Kelly who I had a little moment with. Hmm...wonder what this will lead to. Also she told me I have a new message. Do I have to go all the way down to my room to check it?
When I press start there's a list of resources(?) at the bottom. It says I've got 2000 of one of them. Are these important/what do they do?
