Sorry, I wasn't clear. By illicit, I mean any relationship outside of marriage that involves sex, living together, or any other act that is traditionally the domain of married couples.

From: red sox 777 | #062 if I'm getting this clear, if you and your buddy lived together, you'd have to prove to the government that you weren't boinking each other.
Am I getting this right?
The burden of proof is always on the prosecution.
This should be the plot of Phoenix Wright 4. Armstrong could come back!
Oh man, just imagine a national ban on extramarital sex. With the penalty being revocation of voting rights. We could get rid of the Democratic Party's power in one fell swoop!
Or, we could try the old rule. If a man and a woman have sex outside of marriage, and they are caught, the man must offer to marry the woman. If she accepts they will be wed, and if not, he will be treated as a rapist.

The President needs to grow a pair and issue an executive order making gay marriage legal everywhere. If some state doesn't like it, do what Eisenhower did and send in the National Guard. It's time we stop oppressing minorities in this country once and for all.

That's highly unconstitutional. Unlike Eisenhower, Obama does not have either judicial or legislative authority to do that.

From: vcharon | #072 Remember that time some states wanted to keep things their way and left the Union? Yeah, sure glad they were allowed to get their way!
...
That's a terrible example. North Carolina didn't rebel against Federal law. There was nothing federally illegal about what they did.

I'm sick of the oppression of gays in this country. If it takes something dramatic like the president forcing people to come into the 21st century via an executive order, then so be it.

Shut your ****ing mouth. You want to live in a state that allows that kinda thing, go right ahead. But don't you dare tell other stares what they should or should not do because of your "morals". I HATE gay marriage, but each state has the right to decide their own on it. The people of Maine and other ultra liberal states wanted to legalize it, and they should have been able too. No federal should have any right to tell any state what it can or cant do with it's own people.
Conservatives should allow gays to marry. Think of it this way, maybe the "gay gene" is dominant, and it's only still around because gay dudes get into straight marriages in order to have some kind of companionship in their lives. Sure they're not banging the dude they want to bang, but they have kids, who they pass the gay genes onto. If we just allow them to get married, they would stop reproducing and just adopt. Within a few generations, gayness would be purged from the genepool anyway. Conservatives have to support gays now to get rid of them for their grandchildren. It's the noble thing to do!
What if conservatives don't mind gay people at all and just want to save them from themselves so they can have happy, productive, marriages that produce children?

See, now you're making the mistake that conservative politicians want anyone to be happy.

That's not true.
They want all the billionaires happy!

Somehow it would be more comforting to think that they were only maliciously evil.

I'm not taking a side here, just pointing out the logical fallacy.
I also refuse to take a side in an internetz argument, but this isn't an example of tu quoque.
If person A went "Gay marriage is ruining marriage" and person B went "but you were just divorced!", then that counts. If person A goes "gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage" and person B goes "marriage has no inherent sanctity, and here are some examples of that" that is not an example of tu quoque.
A subtle distinction, but that is how I learned it.
