When you think about it, the movie makes just as much sense if you assume there was no Candyman and Helen (and later dude's new girlfriend) were just loons. Mindscrewy. Plus the soundtrack was amazing

I disagree personally, you can't really say there being no Candyman is the point... when that's not what the movie is. It's part of the drama, people thinking she's just crazy, but ultimately that's not what it's about. That's not what Barker's horror is about rockin' I'd say.

It really seemed up to interpretation, given how Candyman was only around due to people believing in him. You can take that literally, or you can take it as an urban legend that these crazy people keep alive. "The devil/Tony Todd made me do it". As said, it's mindscrewy

Of course, Candyman is influenced by A Nightmare On Elm Street, and Freddy too only has power if you believe in him. Sure, there's subtext and stuff to that, but literally in the story I'd say both characters exist. Having the impossible horrors actually exist is well, a big part of supernatural horror.
