and yeah, i recall hating the intermission at first even though it was kinda like problem sleuth 2 and involved some abilities i loved. i just wanted more homestuck story at that point and almost aaalmost skipped it with intent to go back.
really though, compared to the rest of homestuck, it is a drop in the bucket and worth going through for plot points that may or may not happen in the future.

I loved the intermission. It even includes the best time travel super power ever (Biscuits'). Really it starts kinda slow but has some of the best moments and jokes in the series, which is saying a lot.

It's hard to say with Homestuck, because it keeps changing and keeps getting better, but at least Act 4. At the very least, get to Descend, then decide whether or not you want to continue.

I'd say if you're that far in and it's the quirky writing style you're not a fan of, then Homestuck probably isn't for you. That never really changes. While I certainly am sucked in by the story, it's the writing style that I like the most about it.

If he's just flat out bored with it by then, there's nothing that's going to change his mind. He's not going to magically start liking the characters and dialogue by getting farther when they're fairly well established (if not completely refined) by then..
'Get farther' really only applies to people that like the writing style, characters, and premise, but find the current situation boring.
Besides, the story itself picks up immensely, and even in terms of characters, the majority of the cast hasn't been introduced yet. The only thing that does stay consistent is the writing style. And if you don't like that style, then sure. But only that.

I have heard people get bored at Act 3, especially during Jade antics. But if you're bored at the other stuff aside from Jade, then yeah, lost cause. Especially after the ending flash of Act 3.
Also, Intermission has some great moments! Pretty slow at first, though. Diamonds Droogs, too good.

It doesn't specify why he is bored, what he is bored by, or even if he was bored up until this point. There are literally dozens of ways that you could interpret it. And maybe yours is correct, but it is an assumption, nothing more.

But again I loved Problem Sleuth and the Intermission is pretty much that but more violent. Plus the main character is awesome. Homestuck is always awesome when it is following what that guy is doing.

like so Jack Noir becomes super powered for some reason and takes out one of his leaders because he is annoyed then just decides to **** everyone up for ****s and giggles / no reason?

Actually there's some subtle hints that indicate that Jack, DD, CD, and HB were working to take over Skaia and the Incipisphere.
This is more obvious in hindsight and you get more details later, but you can sort of see it by how they were radioing back and forth and how Jack first took out the royalty after rising to power.
