God of War has kinda crossed the line from being visceral and "f yeah" to just being comical and juvenile. I have no problem with violence or gore but this is just doing it for a reaction.

I personally never understood the violence trait associated with GoW. Manhunt is violent. Postal is violent. This is run-of-the-mill hack and slash.

I wouldn't even say Manhunt is all that violent, save for some of the head imploding finishers.


too bad it turned into a 3rd rate 3rd person shooter instead of expanding its stealth element :(

I would guess the cyclops is Polyphemus (can't think of any other note-worthy cyclopses from mythology). That would be cool if Odysseus is in it too.

I think the multiplayer is going to be non-Kratos characters.

God of War is cool but they've made the same game like six times now. this series needs a rest for a while, or a mechanical overhaul since the combat never changes.

I actually don't think that's a good idea for this series. I mean, yeah, the gameplay would benefit an overhaul, but the fanbase of these games flock to it BECAUSE it's mindless hack and slash that requires no skill. GoW is all about the spectacle, if you add actual challenge or complexity to that you ruin it.

It's basically the Bayformers of the video game industry.

I almost want to agree with this, but I think it's just a little too harsh.

God of War IS all about the spectacle, but the Hack and Slash genre itself is rather mindless. DMC, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, etc, all fall into the same "button mash and dodge" mold, which is perfectly fine. HnS in general is a spectacle based genre.

It's not really meant as that much of an insult. Asura's Wrath is also akin to this and that was a pretty great experience. It's just that kind of game.

Not requiring skill is also not necessarily and insult. Enslaved required no skill and I enjoyed playing that.

I dunno, it looks like God of War. You're either into that or you're not. Maybe they'll make some changes, but more of that isn't that interesting.

DMC and Bayonetta do not fall under this, those are both games where a significant amount of skill is often required and there are many, many options available to you.

Ninja Gaiden is a good example, though, because it is pretty much just like GoW, where the whole game is, for the most part, dodge and mash. The difference is that Ninja Gaiden is excessively difficult at times, which I honestly think hurts it a lot compared to GoW, since the difficulty level is not justified by the amount of skill required.

I'm not saying make it complex, I'm just saying give him different attacks or change the kinds of enemies or something. I've been doing square-square-triangle for 5 or 6 games straight. they add in these subweapons that nobody really uses (or at least I don't!) instead of actually changing things. I just want to play a new game.

I don't think GoW is general hack and slash, because I've played general hack and slash games and they're really boring. I love the blood and gore and over the top violence. It's even better when you're in a foul mood.

Multiplayer? Cool beans. Looking forward to hearing more.

God of War is a great series, but it's not one I get hyped up for. Yeah this new game will be more of the same, but I like the setting and the enemies, weapons, grab moves, and other such things change up a lot. I usually don't even use the Blades of Chaos once I get a new weapon to use since it's more fresh.
