well yeah, Wii U/WES/whatever else they call it will be the go-to for that. i just find it entertaining that they're doing "HEY LOOK AT THE NEW SUPER MARIO BROS! 2!" just weeks after "so you remember that old one 20 years ago? sequel!"

it's like the SF Alpha series, only more bizarre.

Well, it makes sense. NSMB is the second best-selling game in the series behind SMB1. Letting people know that this is an actual sequel to that game is a good idea!

Whatever Mario game they have planned for the WiiU launch is going to need to differentiate itself from this, if it's going to be 2D. That NSMBMii won't be a good idea next to this, so soon after it releases.

But NSMBW was the best Super Mario game since World.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. On one hand, the original on the DS was a big letdown, and probably the weakest mainline Mario platformer. On the other hand, though, NSMBWii was my favorite Mario platformer since SMB3 (if we're not counting Yoshi's Island, of course).

Even if it turns out to be a flop, though, at least we already have a fantastic Mario platformer on the system! 3D Land was incredible.
