Read an amazing article in the Atlantic Magazine about the creator of this game and so I went on steam and paid 10 bucks for it. I was so impressed with his vision of Video games that I don't care I spent 4 times as much as I could have at some point in the past.

Anyways, so it seems to me that some of these puzzle pieces are completely impossible to get. I don't suppose that I power up sometime in the future or something? I don't want to be spoiled at all, because I have a feeling it will be worth the mental effort in the end, I just want to know if it is possible to get all of the puzzle pieces the first time through.

secondly when trying to find this answer I heard something about stars. The non spoilery question I have is will I know it when I see one of these things? I kind of spoiled myself to the first one (something about a moving cloud that takes 2 hours (which made me want these things even more tbqh) but it didn't seem to help me find out if I am looking for something I may have overlooked.

Thanks

all puzzle pieces are possible to get whenever you first see them

I thought the same thing too when I first played the demo, but then I thought a bit more and experimented a lot more and got things together. And IIRC the stars is a NG+ sort of thing.

Every puzzle piece you encounter can be obtained the first time you see it.

I never got/saw a star. They are not easily visible.

Also if you like Jonathan Blow, check out this lecture about optimization and how to actually make a product:

It's one of my favorite talks about not only game design, but software design in general.

that Atlantic piece is kind of a mess. I liked reading some of the insight into his design process though, especially with Braid. I had no idea the gameplay was done in 2005 and he just didn't want to release it until the narrative was ready.

Do you usually read the Atlantic? They have their own style of writing I think and I thought the piece was quite good. Held up well

If you think it was poor for the Atlantic then I compliment you for reading such a fine magazine!

hmm don't remember that piece
but as a whole, there's not really much backtracking unless you just give up on a piece and go to the next room or something

there's one star which is total BS and missing it forces you to replay the game to get all the stars

won't spoil it unless you want to know

You might still be able to get it depending on how much of the puzzle is put together, but you might not.

So, slightly nervous about this I looked it up. The first thought was: How in the world would I have ever figured that out. The second was oh crap I connected two of the pieces to other pieces.

So I'm screwed then? In a non spoiler answer, should I just start over now?

try not to go to FAQs too much with Braid, though. like Portal, it just doesn't feel as good if you don't do it yourself

Loved Braid. Loved Braid's ending.

SPOILER-like warning.

I realized how Tim-like I could appear to some people. It made me tear up a bit.
