I've heard some of them are really, really awful. A copy of the Meat is Murder book came into my store one day and I read a bit of it - it's this weird, trite pseudo stream-of-consciousness tale of listening to that album for the first time. I hope that book is an outlier, because I enjoy all of the albums covered in this sale.

Just doing what I can! Of course, take a look at my list of top books. I mostly prefer sci-fi; no problem admittin' it! Buuut I do read quite a few genres. Gotta be a Renaissance Man!
Anyway, that sounds... odd. Sounds like something I'd type up on a rainy day and then promptly delete.
I recently finished Asimov's "Foundation" series. Long time coming, that. And I rank it quite high. Really enjoyed it.
I like these sorts of things, though -- volumes of shorter tales. Hit-or-miss of course, but the good ones stick with me forever and rarely get to a point where I feel like they're dragging their feet toward the finish line.
If you're into spec fic and short stories, you need to bookmark this site: http://weirdfictionreview.com/ It's edited by Jeff and Ann Vandermeer; Jeff is among the best living American authors and Ann is a wonderful editor, considering her five year run editing Weird Tales brought that magazine back to relevance. If you have an ereader or iOS device, just use Readability or Instapaper and go through the fiction section.
why did a topic about music books turn into a topic about vandermeer and spec fic damn you all

But seriously, bookmarking the hell outta that site. Great suggestion. Thanks, Icon -- you always know how to turn your own personal queries into life-changing advice for those around you.
Now whether you get answers to your queries is another subject altogether.
It's a pretty awesome website. It started out as a promotional website for their The Weird anthology, but quickly turned into something that could stand on its own. Really excited for that book. It was published in the UK last year, and an e-book was released a few months ago, but the NA hardcover is out next month. I've had it pre-ordered for ages.
look at that beauty

OMG, the featured authors list is exceptional. Just pepper in some Tad Williams and resurrect either Asimov or Heinlein and I'd probably do socially questionable things to that book.
Basically, the author spends the first part giving an autobiographical account of his younger years. His first time listening to the band and how he wasn't a big fan of the album in question (Wowee Zowee). Later on, he grows to love it and explains why he likes the band so much.
I liked it because its really human and the author has a genuine respect for a band I also love. After that, he gets to talk to some of the band memebers and conduct interviews with them. It gives a lot of insight into the making of the album and the band in general
