when one purchase's free two-day shipping already pays for the $80/year fee - that's wonderful. my shipping costs would have been $82 and I just renewed last month. Next 10 months of free shipping for free!

life changing imo

Agreed, but $80 fee? I thought I just renewed for $40 a few months ago.

But yeah, shipping an 80-lb punching bag for free in a couple days is pretty snazzy.

$40 is the student fee. And you also can't beat the $4 one-day shipping.

Yep, and I've still got all the info saved. I just went and got myself promoted so I've been super busy and not posting at all

I'm a cheapass, so I'm perfectly content waiting an extra couple of days for my Dominion expansion to ship to me. I admit I loved it when it was free for students though.

Yeah but I'm talking all kinds of stuff - I just bought a desk, a bunch of power strips, some cleaning supplies, wipes for my laptop, couple SD cards, new mousepad, printer ink, bike cable for one of the kids here, a new broom, a comforter and some window blinds. All here in two days or one day, no going out to the store (note this isn't about being anti-social or lazy, I get plenty of time outside) and also much cheaper than in-store.

also got some of those assorted fruit flavor tootsie rolls that I only ever see on halloween and never see in the store aw yeah

It's not really amazing if you have to order ridiculous amounts to make it worth it.

My dad has Prime. He buys chamomile tea in 10-pound bags about four times a month. He uses it for some weird medical recovery thing I'd rather not explain.

The shipping on them would be like 30 dollars a bag. The man is killing it.

Also, that means I get to use Prime too on all sorts of fun things. WHEEEE!!!

Prime is a Netflix like system in that you have no idea how it could possibly be profitable, but it's awesome because of that.

You don't have to. My point was that it paid off in one purchase. And my $82 estimate was with shipping that wasn't guaranteed two days, either - it was 5-14 days, (and one day would have been $180+). Any time I decide I want something, I can have it here the next day for a fraction of the cost it would be in store and without the shipping charges of other sites that are also cheaper than in-store.

What the hell are you ordering that has $82 shipping?

I ordered my $800 computer entirely online, and the shipping was less than $10(IIRC). You have to order a hell of a lot to get that kind of shipping :/

Not all things are shipped equally. My computer on newegg is ten bucks shipping, but that's because there's all kinds of deals in regards to computer builds and things of that nature. It's not simply "this item weighs more and you are charged more." The desk I bought is $64 shipping from the manufacturer, $42 shipping on another site and $32 shipping on Amazon without Prime - with prime it's free, and here in two days (or one day for $4). Any time I need a new charger, or anything like that, etc, I don't have to fuss with getting my order above $25 for the free super saver shipping, I can simply buy it for two bucks or whatever and it's here in two days. In store, that same charger is $17 (this kinda thing is particularly bad for small accessories, which often have huge huge huge huge markups in B&M stores)

If you don't shop online a lot, granted, it's not for you (unless you like amazon instant video which is free with prime woooh), but I didn't shop online a lot before I started the free trial. Now I shop online several times a month.

Hmmm, fair enough. Oh well, either way you get your worth from it so all is good :)
