Well Judi Dench being in the reboot movies never worked to begin with since M being a woman was established as being a new thing in Goldeneye. So at this point it doesn't matter what they do really.

I thought the Craig movies were more of a reboot than strict prequels. Or maybe they'll just say "different people are M at different times and this one happens to look identical to one much later in the series". It's not like it's any stranger than Bond changing appearance periodically and not aging in anything resembling a natural way.

Craig's Bond is a new continuity- it might work a bit like the Tomb Raider reboot, in the sense that we can assume that the events of games/films in the old timeine have happened/will happen, but almost certainly didn't/won't happen in quite the same way as the version we've already seen.

I remember an interview before Royale was released saying they fully acknowledged that casting Dench again made, like, no sense, but she was so good at it that they just had to.
