Board 8 > Final Fantasy 7 is Pretty Great so far

About an hour in now, already realizing how dull it makes Final Fantasy 13 (The last FF I played) seem in comparison. Characters so far are cool, as is the music, and battle system. Graphics are on the poor side but that's not a big deal anyways.

Couple of questions!

Is there anything worth getting that's easy to miss, including characters?
How long should a play through generally take?

You'll wanna get Yuffie and Vincent towards the end of disc one. You can technically get them later, but it's easier to get it over with, especially if you plan on putting them in your main party.

There is a limit break you can miss for Aeris. Well, you can get it later, but its useless

Screw that. You can get Yuffie in the first half of disc 1, and Vincent about 2/3rds.

There's lots of good missable items in the game, getting 100% is a nightmare. But the game is easy you only need that stuff for the secret bosses.

Make sure you run around a lot in forests around Eagle Tower/Junon before you do the plot stuff in Junon. If not then come back later, no big deal.

You're going to have the jump through a hoop or two for Vincent, but it's all still contained to one area, thankfully.

Chocomog is your first summon materia. Get it at the chocobo farm. Pretty sure it is missable (but no one ever does)

Not legitimately. Cloud doesn't take a hiatus from the party until Disc 2.

It's good to have the optional characters as soon as possible. That way the party feels like it's consistently growing and you get all the "complete" scenes.

For the record I got Aeries (Who I renamed Aerith) about 15 minutes ago. I had a bit of trouble distinguishing what in the church I could walk / climb on. >_>
