Just got Eternal Sonata through Gamefly and boy was that first hour and a half underwhelming.
I had to switch to Japanese voices ASAP because Polka's VA was just terrible, and I'm hearing her so much because half of this game is cutscenes. Battles are repetitive and generic or reflex testers. I can't stand the light/dark system, and the idea of only having two spells and four items to use in any given fight is not appealing. I honestly don't understand how this game has been rated so high unless there's a serious improvement somewhere down the line?
Anyone who has played this game through, is there any reason to keep going or should I just send the game right back in?

The battle system gets worse as you progress through the game, and the story is never coherent enough because it switches between different parties so often.
Yeah the battle system never changes and is nothing very special at all. It gets really boring after hours and hours of grinding away at it. The characters get better later on in the game but again are nothing spectacular.
It's a pretty bad game. Some people like it but if you already can't stand it then you are probably not one of those people.

Sending it back then and probably getting Tales of Vesperia next. I enjoyed Symphonia and I've heard they're pretty similar so I don't see myself getting burned twice here.
