Oh I'd still have been amped, sure, but not nearly as much. Like the actual moment when he came out wouldn't have got quite the same reaction from me. Like for instance Jericho's debut months ago, I was still hyped but there wasn't that "oh my god awesome" moment right when he came out.

About the only true monster pop for someone's unknown return I can think of was Bret Hart's "fake return" in Canada when HBK was heel.

Cena returning at the Rumble got a reasonably big one.
Mainly because no one expected it >_>. I was expecting Lashley to return

I don't get why this is so huge, though. This is the same Brock Lesnar they booed out of the company during that Goldberg match, right?

Nanananana heyhey goodbye, same dude?

See that's what I thought too... But even the biggest heels some reason returns and is cheered for some reason.

Hulk and Flair would get cheered like crazy, yeah.. But Nash got some really awkward silence last year when he came back. If Nash came back next raw I wouldn't be surprised if we got "NOT THIS AGAIN" chants or something similar.

Yeah if you're a big name and you return, you're a face. That's why Jericho had to be extra despicable during this Punk feud in order to be the heel.

Because he was abandoning them.

Well that was because the context he came back for was really dumb.

Nash came back at last year's rumble and got a huge reaction-- then came back for a storyline and it was kinda like "huh?!"

I always thought that he got a nice reaction at the rumble because it was like "Aw hey just like old times for one night only, this is fun." But then when they actually tried to put him in a storyline it was like "...Uh guys nostalgia is cool and all but uh...GUYS."

Yeah, they also brought him back in a way that it was instantly clear that he'd be working FOR the newest heel sleazeball (Johnny) AGAINST the rising incredibly popular star (CM Punk)

Every time I watch that match, I keep thinking that Brock and Goldberg MEANT for that match to suck. Both guys and the fans knew they were leaving, with Brock wanting to go to the NFL and Goldberg flat-out tired of the WWE in general, so they felt it was appropriate to give the fans the middle-finger (Brock literally), since the fans were going to **** all over them anyway.
