Eureka Seven beated

This is one of the ultimate feel good anime. I loved every moment of it until the last 2 episodes. I felt that the bad guy shouldn't have gotten his way. His whole deal seemed too convoluted and I'm still not entirely sure what happened. 44/50 episodes is amazing. I think the episode they introduced the second OP was a clip show and somewhere in the early 40s there was a soccer episode which seemed like filler, that plus the last 2 episodes puts this at a solid

Pretty awesome show so far. The soundtrack is just so awesome. Pretty sure I love late 70s/early 80s bgm way too much for my own good.

I need it :(

Jesus christ, the battleship is a mech. Sooo many people died during its transformation

One thing I was thinking of just now, their fold system disappeared, right? Why not capture one of the alien ships and salvage their fold?

AGE 35

Pretty awesome episode. So the EXA-DB is the Dark History. Interesting!

My prediction. Flit is going to have a heel turn when he decides to take the EXA-DB to use it to kill all Vegans. Kio will be like "DAD TRUSTED US TO DESTROY IT!" And then Flit will be like "ASEMU WAS A FOOL! ALL OF THIS POWER!"

Flit will then take off, where he'll develop some sort of super weapon. The Earth Federation and the Vegans, led by Zeheart now (because Ezelcant will have been killed by this point) will now understand each other and team up to bring down Flit and his supporters, who are going to use this super weapon to destroy Mars. Asemu and Zeheart will have a cool moment where they team up and do a combo attack, right before they both die and then Kio will go rage mode and slaughter Grandpa Flit

Up to episode 12 of Macross

Jesus christ these alien dudes are HUUUUUGE. I thought the big things were like androids or something, but I guess all the members of the alien race are that big.

I guess that explains why the Macross was so big. THat'd be nothing for them

Macross 15

Some biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig developments. This show has gone from "pretty good" to "pretty great" lately, sans the crappy recap episode 14. Ever since Hikaru, his wingmen and Hisa were captured, some neat things have been happening.

Bro Focker is awesome. It appears I might be wrong about him getting with Hisa though. It appears him and her best friend are an item. Judging by the fact he totally banged her during the "Welcome Back to Earth" ceremony.

I can see Hikaru and Minmay drifting apart, ever since she became Miss Macross. I guess that's going to be part of their development: Coming to terms with each other's careers. I'm sure it will work out in the end though

Decided to watch Gundam Evolve tonight, since it's kind of short. All of the episodes are named after the Gundam its about.

RX-78-2
Not really much to say about this one. The story is that Amuro is sitting in his cockpit, thinking about all the battles he has fought, and all the friends he has lost while he waits to be deployed at A Baoa Qu. Most of it is stock footage, but I think the final shot of him launching was new. Some nice arrangements of songs from the original series. Really made me reminisce about how nice the original series was. A true anime classic

RX-178 Gundam Mark 2
This clip was done entirely in CGI and had new dialogue. The premise is that it's archival footage of Kamille testing out the Mk 2 with two Rick Dias (Apolly and Roberto, I'm assuming). Quattro and Astonaige are observing the manuvers. Sandwiched between these tests are footage of the Mk2 being constructed. At the end of the episode, Kamille accidentally destroys their observation probe and apologizes to Astonaige. Pretty cool stuff actually.

GF-13-017 God Gundam
A lot shorter than the first two. Starts off with the God Gundam on top of a building in a ruined city, performing Tai Chi moves. Suddenly, he's interrupted by a visit. Rain has arrived, in a gundam that I don't recognize, demanding to know where he has been these last few days. They insult each other before fighting. Sadly, this episode loses points for no SHINING FINGER. Seriously, wtf Sunrise!?!?!

Dendrobium RX-78GP03
I think the Dendrobium was a lolsome ...whatever it was, but this episode was pretty cool. Starts off with a very "Metal Gear Solid Post-credits"-esque scene where two voices are heard implying that Jamitov leaked the information about the GP project to the Delaz fleet. A detachment of Zeon soldiers piloting Zaku IIs and Gelgoogs are sent to the La Vie en Rose to destroy the GP03. At first, they're held off by the MS, but they are outmatched when the Mobile Armor part arrives. This episode really did a great job of showing off the bells and whistles of the thing. Didn't look nearly as silly here as it did in 0083. Some great choreography. At the end, it is implied that there was a file on the GP04 as well, however whoever was trying to access the file was unable to.

RX-93 Nu Gundam
This was an odd episode. Some trippy stuff, but I really liked it. It might be because the Nu Gundam is my favorite Gundam though. Basically it starts off with Quess in the Alpha Azieru shooting down Hathaway's Jegan. Amuro senses this and speeds off to confront her. He says that they were friends, yet she never considered his feelings. She talks about how its not her fault and how she hates people, yadda yadda. They fight for a bit, before Amuro senses Hathaway. He tells her that Hathaway is still alive and that she needs to go to him, which she does but not before saying smirkly that Amuro could shoot her in the back. The CGI and effects were definitely a step up from the previous episode. Would have liked to have seen more Nu Gundam rather than more Quess/Hathaway stuff. I think CCA had enough of that >_>

YMF-X000A Dreadnought Gundam
I didn't recognize what this mobile suit was, but apparently it was from the Astray Manga. It's an alright looking mech. Visually, this episode was a step down from the previous one though. I'm not entirely sure what was going on here to be honest. I couldn't tell if this stuff was really happening, or if the pilot was hallucinating or what.

XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero
The episode starts out with Dr. J talking to a shadowy figure about how people love to identify humans not as individuals but as groups. He then transitions to how the reason they picked the person they did is because he never quit. It then cuts to a scene where a person in a space suit who has Heero's slouchy posture is sneaking into some orbiting facility. He breaks in, steals a transport pod and tries to escape. Eventually, the pod ship thing is shot, it explodes. But out from it comes the Wing Zero (Endless Waltz version btw). He blows up the facility and flies off. Cuts back to Dr. J and the shadow (who is revealed to be Relena). Dr. J says that the name he gave the boy was Heero Yuy. Cuts back to Heero, inside the wing zero, who then gives his typical ass smirk as he watches the destruction.

GAT-X105 Strike Gundam
It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from something as far as Seed is concerned. A ZAFT dude is talking with his comrade about how he's concerned since Waltfeld was destroyed. his partner laughes and is like "no way will we lose". Out of nowhere the Strike presumably piloted by Kira shows up and kills everything (this is before his no kill rule) in exciting and flashy ways. Lots of John-Woo esque hijinx. Tons of bullet time and slow motion and mid air rolls. If nothing else, it was amusing to watch.

MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam
I expected Kamille but instead i got something else.

This episode was long as hell. It has 3 Zetas in it, one of which is piloted by Amuro though they never call him by name, just by his call sign "White Unicorn". Anyway, the 3 Zetas are deployed from Earth to take on some sort of Newtype Mobile Armor. Amuro and the Yellow Zeta have their hands full, but the Red Zeta (who's pilot had a random encounter with Amuro during the One Year War when he almost ran her over) is captured by the machine. It's operators begin using Newtype powers to download Karaba and AEUG military secrets from her brain and assault their base. Amuro uses his Newtype powers to wake her up and she blows up the Mobile Armor.

One of the weirder things about this episode was the fact that the Red Zeta was not a normal Zeta. It almost seemed like it had a psycho frame or something. The pilot, Yuri, was not "piloting" it in the normal sense. It was like she was psychically controlling it and using gestures like how Domon does.

MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam
Definitely one of my favorite episode just because of how much fun it was. It starts off with a conversation between Roux and Judau. They're escorting the Jupiteris and its Judau's birthday. Roux is telling Judau that a supply capsule on their way to the ship that is supposed to have a birthday present for him on it. APparently Judau also got a present from Roux, but he can't currently find it. Their captain interupts their banter and says that a mobile suit is hailing them, saying it wants to defect but is currently being pursued. The captain sends Judau out to go retrieve it. Judau is concerned because apparently he's low on fuel, but goes out anyway.

It turns out the MS in question is actually a black Qubley. It's being pursued by some Doven Wolves. Judau and the Qubley pilot fight them off, but they get into a disagreement. the Qubley wnats to go and finish off the Doven Wolves, but Judau pushes it back (expending all of his thrust in the effort), saying it needs to get the ship. It acknowledges and flies off towards the Jupitris.

Judau is depressed because now HE can't get back. BUt then he realizes he's in the middle of the route for the birthday container. It meets up with him. It turns out that it was a spare "B Part" for the ZZ Gundam, which was gifted by Leina and all of his friends back on Earth. He re-docks and flies back to the Jupitris and is welcomed back by Roux, though they begin arguing again when he mistakes her birthday cake she made for him as something else >_>.

The last shot is him opening his cockpit. The Qubley pilot is outside waiting for him. You don't see her face, but the suit itself is a Puru clone space suit.

RB-79 Ball
I lolled when I realized this was going to be a Ball episode. It was actually pretty decent though.

Basically, its 9 days after the Fall of A Baoa Qu and a squadron of Balls are inspecting the ruins of the fortress. Suddenly they're picked off when something shoots at them from the darkness. A sole Ball pilot manages to evade the attacks and presses on. Eventually he enters a large chamber and confronts what was shooting at them: A Zaku II. He immediately fires at it, taking it down. However, the pilot of the Zaku is knocked out of the MS and the Ball pilot watches in horror as the dead pilot drifts past him.

RMS-099 Rick Dias
I'm cool with Rick Dias and I'm cool with this episode. It starts off with Quattro in a bar. He's moody and he thoughts drift back to earlier. He was doing a training simulation when one of attendants changes Quattro's Rick Dias' colors to red. Confused, Quattro asked why. The Attendant says its to help the mood. Quattro replies that he doesn't understand, but fights some simulation GM2s. Suddenly his scanner picks up a new MS. It's a Red Zaku II. Quattro is caught off guard and ends up losing the fight. Upset, he ends the simulation and demands to know what that was about. Astonaige apologizes but said the attendant thought it'd be fun to see. Quattro says that the data was false and that there is no way a newer MS like the Rick Dias would lose to an older suit. Astonaige assures him that the data is real. Astonaige then changes topics and asks him if he'd like like to repaint their new mobile, the Hyaku Shiki, red.

It cuts back to the bar. A woman is there, drunk, rambling about how popular she was during the OYW. Suddenly some dude runs in declaring himself to be Char. The bartender says that some people have trouble letting go of the past. Char says that it's harder than you think. But it'd be fun to try.

I think afterwards, he's doing a simulation again, this time in the Hyaku Shiki (standard gold coated). The attendant says that he has something interested prepared for Quattro. The simulation begins and the "something interesting" is the RX-78.

I loved the implication of this episode that everyone in the AEUG ****ed with Quattro about him really being Char. Some hilarious stuff.

RMS-108 Marasai
This is told from the perspective of a Titans pilot named Jonathan, who is the son of some sort of businessman

The episode takes place during the part of Z Gundam when the AEUG was dropping on Jaburo. Jonathan is a very angry dude and is trying to destroy the Mk 2. However, his Ballute auto-opens before he can destroy it. Since he has nothing else to do, he plays a video his dad left him, warning him that his unit is just being used as a trap to lure the AEUG into Jaburo where they'll be caught in the explosion. Jonathan ignores the video, saying he won't ignore his beliefs. Suddenly his ballute malfunctions and he starts burning up again. He takes the oportunity to start firing on AEUG MSes again. Eventually his Marasai explodes.

THe last scene is Jonathan sitting on top of an escape pod. He laughes when he realizes he doesn't even realize what AEUG stands for. In front of him is a mushroom cloud.

Rekka Musha Gundam
I'm not familiar with SD Gundam, but this was interesting. Had a sengoku/samurai theme to it. Basically some kids (well, Kid Gundams >_>) stumble upon a battle field, where they see a Gundam fight off some Zakus. They think he's cool and ask him what he fights for. While trying to explain the Gundam army fights for justice, the restaurant that the kids have taken him to is attacked by more Zakus, this time led by the evil Demon Zaku. Demon Zaku transforms into a big normal proportioned version of himself and demands that Musha Gundam hands over his sword. Musha declines and they fight, but Musha loses. The kids try to hand over the sword but Musha recalls the sword and transforms into a super saiyan and proceeds to kick Demon Zaku's ass.

It was kind of cute >_> I wanna see Musha Nu Gundam

Newtype Challia Bull

The Longest Episode. It's pretty much a remake of the episode of the same name, but with CGI. Wasn't bad, but lacked the visceral element of the original version.

Overall, Evolve is worth a watch, but I think only a few episodes are actually "great".

Nu Gundam, ZZ Gundam and Rick Dias are highlights for sure, and Strike is worth a watch just for the Kira wanking alone. The rest are kind of w/es.

Finished Macross.

What a show. Beautiful drawn (thought not always beautifully animated >_>). Great characters. Great plot. Mecha designs were solid.

It does take a while to get to like some of the characters (such as Hayase, who I ended up loving). I guess that's one of the themes of the show though, huh? That everyone has a side to them that you might not see. At first I was shipping Minmei x Hikaru pretty hard, but they really did grow in two different directions.

The show WAS a little oddly paced. I feel like the main plot was resolved in episode 27, and the final 9 episodes were all character development, yet somehow it still works. I'm not sure how I feel about Kamjin as the final villain of the show though.

I really loved how they portrayed the Zentradi adoption of culture. Very well done. However, they also do a great job of showing the negative parts too such as frustration at the mundane aspects of it, or people starving by not being able to make ends meat. In this regard, I felt bad for the Zentradi in the final arc.

The music was great. Minmei's songs were pretty good, though I started to get tired of My Boyfriend is a Pilot towards the end. This is her best song (at least as far as the series goes. I've already heard and love Do You Remember Love?)

This is the best BGM though:

Like I said before, the characters were all great: My favorites?
Shammy
Max
Kakizaki
Those Zentradi spy dudes
Roy Focker
BRITAI (what a BEAST).

My favorite scene was when Britai beastmode'd Hikaru's team. Consequently is was during that arc that I went from liking the show to outright loving it. Shame he kind of just disappears after they steal that factory.

My only complaint is that sometimes they stretched the animation a little too much. It didn't happen often, but occasionally it felt like watching a slide show and I was left wondering if I had a bad encode. But it's a minor complaint, and sometimes these things happen with older shows.

So yeah, definitely a classic.

I read up on "Robotech". Besides typical 80s anime censorship and renamings, it doesn't seem like it was TOO much of a hack job. However, it seems pretty offensive that they changed what protoculture was. Apparently in Robotech it's an energy source that also serves as like food or something. Weird and completely misses the point.

Can only internet Saturday/Sunday due to summer job, ugh.

AGE is really heating up. I am really excited for the direction it's heading.

I'm glad you love Macross Saro, but this is the best BGM:

Robotech got me in to Macross and mecha in general, so I have a soft spot for it. I think the story is probably the best they could do given their situation (Southern Cross blew pretty hard though; the SDF-1 turned into 3 huge tree stumps for example). Still, the voice acting and soundtrack to Robotech are stellar. I believe there's a straight Macross dub on hulu and it just doesn't hold a candle to the Robotech dubbing.

Pin Point Barrier is literally the cutest thing I've ever seen. Before they used it, I hated the bridge crew. But it was too damn cute watching them use the barrier. Especially Shammy <3 <3 <3

A little upset that Kaifun got didn't get punished. Instead he gets to leave the show dignified. Screw that. Hikaru should have lite into his ass.

Watched DYRL.

I was a bit disappointed, but I still enjoyed it. I think it mishandled the triangle, I thought. His relationship with Minmei went from genuine to just a celebrity crush. He went on one date with Minmei (though I do love the fact he tried taking her to a motel).

His relationship with Hayase was better handled, but I didn't like the part where they were on earth. I also am divided on how they handled protoculture. Having it be some "lost" thing to the Zentradi rather than something they never had in the first place didn't quite have the same impact it did in the show for me. I think it would have been more poignant for Hayase to have written the lyrics on her own.

What I DID like though: I liked how much more "alien" the Zentradi were. It was much more convincing that they didn't have culture in the movie than it was in the show, when you had characters like Kamjin who were colorful. In fact, now that I think about it, it is odd that they didn't have culture when Kamjin was a fan of alcohol prior to the start of the show. I think alcohol is very much a product of culture as music >_>.

I also liked how gorgeous it was. Very beautiful. It sounded beautiful too.

The final battle was much better done in the movie than it was in the show as well. The whole Ai Oboete Imasu Ka part was jut fantastic. Beautiful music. Great combat.

btw, I was horrified by how Kakizaki died in the movie :(

Was pretty cool, actually. The Dougram is a pretty good looking mech. I definitely loved the emphasis on strategy and tactics that was present here.

Couldn't get a good read on the characters since a lot was happening and there were a lot of people introduced, but they seem to be a bunch of dudes (and girl) who work hard but then know how to cut loose.

New G Generation, for PSP.

lol Vita.

Looks like AGE is getting some representation in this game (unless the 3DS version also had AGE?)

Dougram episode 2

Crinn seems like a decent enough dude, but man he almost got his father killed.

Can't get a good read on his dad yet. He could be corrupt. Or he could die soon. Who knows

So Crinn's friends were originally a biker gang? Pretty cool
