I remember some of y'all discussing this game a while back. Just played through it for the first time. I got Emi, and I admit, I cried at the ending. Solid VN. *thumbs up*

if you're going to go over halfway you may as well do them all

(I've only played Hanako's, which was solid but nothing exceptional, and Shizune's, which I didn't care for as much but it wasn't bad per se because I am a lazy guy who hasn't found it in him to get around to it in spite of 100%ing Devil Survivor in that time)

(I'd still recommend at least doing one more route if you read a route already and liked it)

Rin's is seriously the best, though. She seems like a weird character at first, but her arc and character end up being awesome.

Actually been reading this recently! Finished Rin's first, then Lily's, and now I'm on Shizune. Shizune's been my favorite so far. Just got her bad ending, which was massively depressing. Dat final CG with the cat plushie and daaaaaw nooooo

the porn is a complete nonfactor, there's even an option to turn it off and you'll lose nothing doing so

It's pretty much the opposite of what you'd expect from a group that formed out of 4chan.

The porn is definitely not the focus. The game would be a lot different if it were.
It doesn't try to be sexy, almost all of the sex cgs don't even show genitals (when they do it's uncensored, however, unlike Japanese VNs)
There's no real kinky stuff like you might expect (e.g. footjobs from the girl with no arms), the most "out there" thing is just anal
There aren't any ridiculous pictures of the girls covered in fluids at the end of the sex
The porn:story ratio is way lower than you would expect from 4chan

oh yeah I forgot you can even turn off the porn (though a lot of nudity still gets shown with that option)

First real VN game I played. I have played 999, I don't really count that though because of the puzzles, I think the puzzles dub it a puzzle game more than a VN. Anyways, enjoyed it more than I thought I would, my first ending was Emi as well.

Turning off the porn is also a bad idea because you lose out on a good bit of story development by doing that.

yes good corrupt yourself more with the glory of visual novels

i suggest clannad for crying, g senjou for suspense and action, or kamidori for a battle system like a more in-depth fire emblem

Kamidori has a decent battle system, but terrible plot/characters/writing. If you're looking for something with a good story I strongly de-recommend Kamidori. But if you want a solid gameplay game, or you want to point and laugh at a trainwreck of a plot, Kamidori might be your thing.

k, why is Miki not one of the romance options? I just met her for the first time (in a third playthrough) and already I find her preferable to Shizune at the very least >_>

Because she wasn't on the random sketch that inspired the game.

Kamidori really is nothing like Fire Emblem in terms of strategy, it's *apparently* like the uh, that one JRPG series with crafting (this is from hearsay can you tell). If you want strategy Sengoku Rance is probably the best thing but the story, characters and entire setting are ridiculously sex focused so it's obviously not suitable for a VN newbie.

G Senjou is a good next step, followed by Ever17, mostly because G Senjou has a decent translation, rather quick pacing outside of the side routes (Don't play those unless you specifically like the girl involved) and when it really gets going you quickly get caught up in it.
