he told a japanese developer that japanese games suck.

when some people called him a "subhuman" said they hoped he died, etc, he said gamers were the worst people haha. So yeah he kinda sucks, but it's hilarious to see people not playing the game because of it. They probably all liked super meat boy and braid too

People have a right to not support someone if they so choose. The SMB guys and Johnathan Blow may not be the nicest guys around either, but Phil Fish has a much bigger track record of being a douchebag.

I didn't know Icehawk was a part of the Phil Fish defense force, though!

At a Q&A for Indie Game: The Movie, he was asked by a Japanese fan (and someone who possibly worked in the Japanese game industry, but I'm not sure) what Fish thought of the current state of Japanese games, as Fish and others like him have been influenced by Japanese games in the past. Fish responded by saying that 'Japan's games suck,' which is all anyone took out of that, but he also went into slightly more detail why he's not a fan of the current direction of Japanese games, and afterwords apologized to the guy, but Fish still ended his answer by saying 'but still, your games suck.' It was dumb, a generalized and inaccurate condemnation on all Japanese games, and likely insensitive, but places like NeoGAF blew it way out of proportion.

Oh, and the guy who asked the question didn't take offence to the answer. He said he felt it was a challenge to do better and recapture that magic Japan once had. Inafune said many of the same things the very next day but he's not a "hipster" so he didn't earn the ire of Wazzup and his ilk.

and I just fine it funny that they would not support a game solely because of a person. I could see people not supporting someone like brendan mcnamara since apparently he screwed over a bunch of people on LA Noire and was a slave driver, but a smug douche guy, whatever.

I'm not a defender, hes a pretty crappy (and even worse, whiny) person. I just would never dream of not playing a game if its good because of someone who made it. Like I said, if I did that, I better not listen to much music, etc.

I like my damn indie games and don't get why Fez is a big deal at all. I need to try the demo to see if I'm missing something huge.

it amazes me that these guys have the audacity to criticize anyone else's games (blow is pretty terrible too)

the official trailer tellingly does not show anything about the game, which is probably an indication that the game is pretty bad. and looking at the actual footage...yep.
