the reason rallying is banned is because it gives an unfair advantage to the people who care way too much about the contest. instead of being a reflection of how the board as a whole feels about the users (as user of the year is supposed to represent) it really makes it into a representation of who can bug more people to vote for them.

it's pretty simple to understand.

But, once again, the people who they're bugging aren't going to vote for them just cause they're bugging them. They have to like them to some extent.

If MWC came up to me and continuously bugged me to vote, under no circumstances would I vote for him.

Yeah, you're basically tapping into board 8 users who can't be bothered voting - nothing wrong with that. I would never rally a relative stranger in UotY because it's unreasonable and kind of insulting to just presume they're going to do what you want.

I seem to recall in boot immune he got both the most boots and the most immunes as a result. That was all natural, hard as that may be for you to fathom.

I rallied last year, yeah, although there was a ton of legitimate support for me as well. And not because I wanted to win, but because I wanted to piss off people who cared too much about who did or didn't advance (which I'd say was a pretty successful operation).

incidentally, this is the same motivation for what I'm doing right now. example, XIII_rocks is getting legitimately pissed about the fact that he got caught rallying because he wanted to advance so bad, and I'm having a ball.

remember last year when everyone villainized the evil b8anime cult for "rallying" even though there was like 3 people total in there who voted and most of my support was coming from longtime followers of my writing projects I'd been doing on the board for years

and then remember last, uh, 2 days ago, when XII_rocks got caught legitimately rallying and the response isn't to villainize him but a mass outcry about how he shouldn't even be in trouble because rallying should be allowed anyway

I'm more pissed about the circumstances I got caught than getting caught. I've been caught rallying before, in rap battle, and if you look at the way I dealt with that you'll know that I was fine with it; I rallied, got caught, fair enough. It was better than sitting back and doing nothing.

Like it pisses me off that Cobain of all people is the guy who sold me up the river. I won't deny that. He was one of my favourite users on b8 and I've been championing him as the most underrated user on here for like a year so that did hurt.

But I figured if I rallied enough to beat Chris people would start complaining about the voting inconsistencies and stuff anyway, so I was half-expecting to get caught, or to just plain not be able to rally enough to win. The more you rally the further you stretch yourself and the more transparent it gets, right? So I knew it was very unlikely I'd both do enough to win and then survive inevitable calls for me to be DQ'd.

And of course I thought the grounds on which I was originally dq'd (though it was obviously the right decision if you're aware of all the information) were weak; I was prepared to just come home and admit things and go on my merry way but because of the circumstances, I thought I could at least try to spin it into an anti-lefty deal - in the end he's kind of a worthless maggot of a man so I have no problem with trying to glean some positive from the situation.
