Why not just make the TV maintain that response time for everything? >_>

Because they can add superfluous variety and stupid people will pick a TV with "game mode" over a TV that doesn't have it even if the 2nd TV is actually superior.

isn't it just video brightness/contrast/warmth settings? I think it's just a pretty good setting for gaming so you don't have to tinker with the sliders too much.

On my tv, turning on Game Mode eliminates the (otherwise very high) amount of controller lag.

It helps the response time at the potential expense of picture quality.

the enhanced response time takes away from other aspects of performance, IIRC

overall, I'd say that game mode looks better for my games and a lot worse for my not games, so im pretty happy that I can turn it on and off. everyone else is just jealous

I use my Samsung for my PS3, 360 and PC. I set everything up for V-sync when PC gaming because I've only got a 60hz model so there's a lot of screen tearing in games that try to go over 60 frames per second.

With consoles I haven't had any issues with lag whatsoever so maybe I just got lucky and wound up with a good TV for it. It's only 32 inches so that has something to do with it, probably. So I haven't used Game Mode personally. But I can recognize its usages.
