The Heart Cake.



Welp.

I may or may not take bad photos from my phone as I bake. If I take them as I go, I probably won't post them as I take them, but you may get lucky. Photos of inside tomorrow when it gets eaten assuming it doesn't fail miserably.

First step:

Assemble ingredients.

Which is going to require a trip to the shops.

Shopping list:

750g flour
360ml Buttermilk
Red food dye
2 eggs
vanilla extract
500g icing sugar

Ingredients successfully obtained. Only issue was that the icing sugar was nowhere near the rest of the sugar. Also bought the card, it's not late until it's too late IMO.

Headed home now.

Step one, make the middle red bit of cake.

Minced up red cake (delicious):



Sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. Yep, that's all that's in frosting:



SO FLUFFY!



Chop the tops of three of the cakes off so they are flat. (The tops were delicious):



Frosting on two of them (Sorry Scare):



Layer cakes! Into the fridge for a bit.

Last update before we cut it open and see what it looks like tomorrow.

This is my circle measurer. I made it out of an old clock I made in design technology class when I was about 15 and a cocktail stick:



This has been hollowed out. Sorta. (This is where it all goes wrong):



And then filled in with goodness:



This has like an island a channel - it'll be the top bit of the heart (hopefully):



Don't they look nice?



Stack them and they look really tall and imposing all of a sudden!



Finish with some of the best icing in the history of the world. I forced some of the extra red cake through a sieve with a fork to make the pretty red sprinkly bits.



TA-DA! We're done. No idea what the middle will look like, but we'll find that out tomorrow.
