I've had mine for 11, still works. Never had to do any lens cleaning like I had to with my PS1, but I probably should because the disc access speed is SO SLOW. Playing MGS3 takes forever because each codec call loads from the disc, so it takes like 30 seconds to load the conversation.

I got mine late 2001 (FFX) but I recently replaced it with a Slim because the disc motor or whatever was dying. I guess leaving FFXI on all the time did some work. Too bad since I have a HDD and everything.
I have a slim version close to me, I no longer have my old fat one that died quite a while ago. Unfortunately, the slim I have seems to have started to read discs pretty slowly recently. My BC PS3 somewhat recently just started refusing to read all discs, too.

SHINE GET 64 posted... it's right here next to my Wii and PS3. Mine's only 7 years old though because I didn't buy one until Dragon Quest VIII was out.
Same here. Bought it exactly two weeks before release.
Bought Romancing SaGa and Suikoden IV with it

Bought it used about 2 years ago. Still hooked up in my room, although the only two games I have played extensively are Jak and Daxter and Katamari Damacy, of which I only beat J&D. I should probably get on some more games for it.
