Liberal Ladies Who Lunch, a women’s right group that says they strive to turn “America blue, one plate at a time,” is waging a sex strike starting next month that they hope will combat infringements on their personal liberties being waged by conservatives. With women’s rights issues being debated in the mainstream lately by the likes of lawmakers looking to deny the right to choose and commentators deeming pro-choice women as sluts, the strike scheduled for next month seems more than just well timed.

“Why are we taking a stand to protect women's rights in 2012? Because not that long ago a group of brave women took a stand, and in some cases a beating, to give us the right to vote,” explains the group via Facebook, stressing the importance of the American suffrage movement in securing women the right to vote. “Younger men and women may not remember the ‘good old days’ when the only reproductive choice we had was to deny men access to sex. In truth, if we lose our hard won rights to medical care, birth control and pregnancy choice, it won't only affect women. Men will have to go back to the days when they waited for or paid for sex,” explains the group.
To help make a chance, the group is asking like-minded women to align with them for a sex strike starting on April 28 and extending a week later until May 5.
Words cannot describe how stupid this is. You can't convince conservatives that pro-choice women aren't sluts by "not being sluts" for like a few days. Jesus.

This seems kind of...useless? I'm not sure what it affects. I don't think that the sex lives of other people stopping briefly will bother anyone, won't the only people not having sex probably just be people who already agree? Don't protests usually have to be public enough to be unmistakeable and/or involve some negative impact upon the people you're trying to influence?

Heh, yeah, this is how I saw it too. I picture a woman explaining her "sex strike" to her boyfriend and him being all, "wtf, I AGREE with you on this birth control stuff, so why should I have to suffer?" Pointless strike is pointless.
Strikes do not have to involve paid employees. See hunger strikes. This implies that these women see this as a women vs. men issue, but it is really a conservative vs. liberal issue. A genuine conservative vs. liberal issue, in a country where most issues painted as that are not.

The "birth control is immoral" argument may be liberal vs conservative, but the "government should pay for things that people don't feel like paying for themselves" is more of a capitalist/progressive sort of argument.

Also, just wanted to note, the slight majority of women are liberal, and the slight majority of men are conservative, meaning there's some overlap where conservative men are pretending to be liberal to get laid. They must be doubly pissed right now, not only because of the dry spell, but because another awesome opportunity to laugh at liberals has been ruined for them. >_>
Well, women who are "slightly liberal" aren't going to participate in this.
In fact, participation in this just might be the warning sign men need that their girlfriend is actually a radical communist and that no sex is worth it.

I don't know that a lot of conservative men pretend to be liberal to get laid. People of different ideologies get laid all the time.
My girl leans slightly conservative and I lean slightly liberal, and it doesn't affect us at all. Maybe if you are talking about extremists, but most people aren't radical, I think.
