I had never heard of it before, but came across some intriguing articles about it today.

Has anyone played/read this? Any opinions on it?

I thought there were quite a few visual novel fans on the board, where they at?

I thought there were quite a few visual novel fans on the board, where they at?

Short answer: We're racist and we only care about stuff from Japan.

Long answer: The Original English Language Visual Novel (OELVN) scene is entirely separate from the 'other' visual novel scene. Depending on who you ask, they're either considered a huge joke or the only games tackling 'real' issues. If you're a visual novel fan, you're usually fairly indifferent to it because you're either 1) Tackling a backlog of 30 or 60 hour translated VNs or 2) Waiting for a translation for an incomplete or a hyped Japanese release. or 3) Asking opinions from people who have played just Japanese VNs or translations of them.

Yes

You wanted a history lesson.

That was the first thing I saw from the series, and my interest in it has been pretty much zero since then.

I find it rather... well disconcerting that you're more satisfied with it making fun of people than dissatisfied with the usage of internet slag in dialogue!

Fascinating! Visual novels fans continue to perplex me. This novel looks interesting, though, I think I will purchase it.

100% completion.

This is a short game. I beat it in around three hours, then spent another hour or two trying to figure out how to get the remaining pieces. Not to say that it wasn't enjoyable, digging through the logs to piece together what happened on the ship will keep you engaged in the game for the full duration. It's a bit of a headache trying to keep track of all the names, especially if you aren't used to Korean names. And by the time you're starting to get familiar with one set of names you're off to another group of people.

I was actually most invested in this game while playing through the part that was included in the provided Trial version. It was certainly the only time I was really shocked by what I was reading. In comparison, the final reveal at the end wasn't all that hard to reason out, the game even acknowledges that if you've been paying attention you should be able to guess it. Not that that's a bad thing, but if you play through the Trial and think you're getting more crazy plot revelations in the full game you're likely to be disappointed.

You have to meta a little to get all five endings, and again this is something the game acknowledges. Not a huge deal, but I spent around an hour trying different things to get the ending I was missing before I caved and looked it up.

Unless the Trial version really grabs your attention and you want to know more about the world and its characters, $15 is a little too steep for a game like this if you aren't already a fan of the writer and her previous games. I don't think I wasted my money since I've always enjoyed her games, but there are plenty of free VNs out there that are just as good or better. Including, in fact, her earlier games that I mentioned above in this topic which I would highly recommend for anyone to at least try.

Wow, thanks for your impressions, dexter. I haven't purchased it yet so I will take those into consideration. Maybe I will check out an earlier title of her's first.
