Or is it still garbage that will break my add-ons on a regular basis that isn't even worth not being spied on?

How are they spying on you? How are they shady? They are pretty upfront and honest about it - your data is tracked for advertisers to deliver relevant ads, no more, no less. No human sees your data or a name attached to it, it's all encrypted, and the thing most people don't seem to get is that it's in Google's BEST INTEREST to keep your data safe and protected, unlike, say, Sony.

That being said, just disable web history, disable the targeted ads in gmail, install the Disconnect extension and, if you want to add to it, Keep My Opt Outs and Do Not Track Plus. If you want to see who is tracking you (read: every site on the internet) and how, download Ghostery and check it out.

The most baffling part of this is the fact that Chrome isn't what's tracking you. Your usage of Gmail, Google.com, etc is - Chrome is just one of those products. Using it on Firefox is the same thing, especially if you disable Chrome Sync.

Personally, I still don't "like" the tracking even though I know it's harmless, so I have Disconnect, Do Not Track Plus and Keep My Opt Outs installed. If you're REALLY going anti-Google, might I recommend DuckDuckGo for your search engine?

EDIT: Either way, the lack of understanding is hilarious. Their new privacy policy appears sketchy, but it's all the same stuff. Don't get upset just because someone on the internet told you that you should be.

Just get the Add-on Compatibility Reporter and the add-ons thing won't be an issue

I'm running 10, haven't had an issue since 6 versions ago

now this ... THIS is bad. I hate the personalized google searches. Search should be neutral, as an SEO guy, personalizing search is one of the worst things. The internet needs neutral search.

I'm not so much a google defender .. I hate misinformation, though. Probably overrated, to be sure. But what's wrong with clearing up things regarding people who don't know what they're talking about: re: tracking.

By the way, just loading this topic brings up three tracking companies and one ad network tracking me. So yeah.

My whole point is ... if you have a problem with Google, have it for the right reasons. Hate how YouTube is going backwards in its development, and the fact that they now care more about pulling copyright requests than viable fair use user rights. Hate the Android fragmentation, or hate the fact that search is getting further and further from being neutral. Hate the fact that "Google Play Books" is the stupidest sounding thing ever. Don't hate tracking that you don't understand even the tiniest bit.
