Too soon. DS didn't go crazy till the Lite hit. But... there's every chance 3DS sales will balloon down the line like the DS did - 2D Mario, Pokemon, Smash Bros., hardware revisions are all still to come, as well as plenty other titles likely to sell well.
If the Vita fails to recover properly in Japan, that should be to the 3DS' benefit too.

Two problems with the wii comparison. One, handhelds aren't consoles and the past couple gens show some huge legs to them, probably more to do with competition, price, and expectations. Two, it's doing better than the wii.
As for the vita in Japan highly doubt it matters. Eveyone has both a ds and a psp there. Hell, the psp ain't that far from the gba thanks to them.
