This one is still enjoyable and I get that Butcher wanted to do something different but it feels like fanfiction or something. I'm about 2/3 of the way in but at this point what I think happened is Dresden hired Kincaid to kill him so he wouldn't have to be the Winter Knight. Then he'll probably get revived by Mab who will say something about how death doesn't stop him from having to serve her. Of course, don't tell me if I'm right or not. I'm usually pretty bad at figuring out stuff like this but this seems REALLY obvious. augh

Otherwise, the series has been great. Up until this point, I thought the series had been improving with each book and the previous three were a step above the rest of the books. Maybe my opinion will change when I finish it so we'll see. Also, I'm still sad that Michael is crippled. Also, Changes was amazing and Harry killing Susan was tragic. Felt like getting punched in the dick.

I thought Ghost Story took a step back from the last couple of books but it is still very enjoyable to me. I like to think of this story as a one off chance to explore a lot of elements that we aren't going to get the chance to see again.

Also Molly is top tier.

Oh, and the Dresden Files is my favorite book series ever so <_<.

I'm on book three and am reading nothing else in this topic for fear of spoilers.

It is a very good and fun series so far and I've been told it gets better.

Also, I finally now know who the other person that got me to read Dresdan was! I knew it was Kanz and someone, but I got mixed up thinking it was in Twostuck when it was really Sir Chris in the MPFC topic.

woo, more Dresden Files fans. Yeah, I found Ghost Story disappointing too but won't say anything else until you finish reading it.

I've been rereading the old ones and it is crazy how much he still has left unresolved. In like the 2nd or 3rd book Chauncy hints that his dad didn't die from an aneurysm, and we still don't know any more than that. Also we still don't know who Kumori and Cowl are.

Can't wait for the next book!

Yeah, Ghost Story was not as good as some of the others in the series. But overall it's a great series. I hope the next one gets back to what made the series awesome.

Just finished it. So I did have the gist of it but the other details were neat. Uriel is the man and Demonreach is a total bro. I also really liked the ending with Dresden telling Mab how it was going to be. Not bad but I'd say it's one of the worse books in the series.

I had totally forgotten about the first thing. And yeah, I'm really curious about their identities. I'm optimistic that future books will be back up to par. There's all this interesting stuff and I'm sure he can put it all together well. Ghost Story seemed like a setup for the next part of series. I'll probably put together quick book and character rankings tomorrow or something. Anyone else can feel free to do the same!

Ghost Story is great. I didn't expect it to be nearly as epic as Changes, and it wasn't. The series needed a breather. It's a mid-tier Dresden book, which is a good thing.

You don't need to experience something firsthand to know it's bad.

You don't have to drink a bottle of motor oil to know it's going to taste bad and kill you.

It baffles me how you think the facts are going to change if I personally read the book.

You don't need to read the best urban fantasy series to know it's bad, OK.

PS: If you haven't read it, you really, really shouldn't talk, because Harry Dresden is a really, really easy shoe-in for Top 10 Best Main Characters In Fiction. For real, go read the books. They're worth it. So, so worth it.

And on topic, Ghost Story is a book that I really think people should read twice. The first readthrough is kinda underwhelming, but it just...*feels* way better on the second read. Things start clicking a lot more, if you will. It's obviously not as good as Changes, but it's a book that needed to happen. In another forum, someone said something about Ghost Story that I think is very true: it's the Kill Bill Vol. 2 to Changes' Vol. 1. It's much less heavy on action and much more focused on plot, so it's a departure from the usual Dresden style.

"He's tall; he carries a staff of wood that controls his wizard powers"

Good to know he didn't actually read the book. At all. I mean I've only read two books and there were at least half a dozen of his points that were flat out incorrect.

Also, thinking that the book isn't funny at all just shows he has an awful sense of humor.

Hell, he even says that Harry's family is dismissed. That's the point where you know he's talking out of his ass.

Naw, that's Fool Moon. But yeah, the first two books are by far the worst. From there, it keeps getting better and better. But really, that isn't what we're here for, we're here to laugh at all the inaccuracies in that review.
