also maybe I'm weird but it bugs me that it's not actually five seconds per song but instead seems to be anywhere within a range of three to twelve seconds.

"Informer" was a Billboard #1?

...what?

Anyways, I'm just going to edit my thoughts in here as I listen.

I find it crazy that people always talk about how the masses have terrible taste, because 98% of these songs are terrific.

God damn Mariah Carey was the ****. It kind of sucks that people growing up in the 00s will know her for crap like "Touch My Body", same deal with Usher, except he was still killing it early in the decade.

"All My Life" by K-Ci & JoJo is still the greatest song love of all time.

Black people kind of own these charts... and it's kind of funny that "Hit Me Baby One More Time" started playing when I typed that, because I honestly thought that Britney was black when I heard that song on the radio. Blew my mind seeing that video for the first time.

Destiny's Child>Beyonce... TLC>Destiny's Child.

all of these songs have been number 1 since the pirates last winning season. Its kinda sad that i see 1993 and thats what i think of. Oh well we extended mccutchen till 2018 today.

I think if Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" was the only song I heard for the rest of my life I might be okay with that

Well. That ended really badly. I mean I love the hell out of weird imagery used to illustrate love for someone (No Doubt's "Bathwater" for example) but I still can't fathom how someone sang about catching a ****ing Grenade for a #1 single. Those have to be some of the ugliest lyrics I've ever heard. And it's capped off with my absolute least favourite Gaga song. Hmm. This entire thing peaked really early for me, but if anything it's got me in the mood to play around with more Pop and R&B, so that's cool.

Man, I'm surprised at some of the songs that do make top 100.

Like...I know, for instance, that Britney Spears only had one song on the top 100 in the first 10 years of her career, despite being quite popular. By contrast, there's an awful lot of "I vaguely remember that song, remember it getting some radio play, but didn't think it was all that popular" where I'm like...huh, that was a #1?

Definitely enjoyed the earlier bits more (well, until about 2005ish, then it's pretty off and on)
