That's two chances Balo could've been taken off. Kola replacing Balo on the left wing or Carlos replacing Balo as a forward in the 4-4-2 later on. Fella kept going into challenges studs-first and kept refusing to track back. No wonder even "Father Figure" Mancini can't stand him anymore.

Much as I like Balotelli for being Balotelli he should be banned for the rest of the season for that challenge on Song.

What an absolutely frustrating game though. HOW Verm and Benayoun didn't score on the goal line there I'll never know, and Verm blocking that RVP header was ludicrous.

But a deserved win. We were the better side on the day by quite a bit, and Balotelli is a joke.

Premiership Title Race Status: Over

Premiership "Race for 4th" Status: Very Alive.

If Chelsea can beat Fulham tonight, they, Spurs, and Newcastle will all be level on 59 points. Chelsea and Spurs are way ahead of Newcastle on GD though.

Also, what a game between Real Madrid and Valencia. Probably the best 0-0 I've ever seen. Madrid cannot afford any more slip ups or Barcelona will have their title fate in their own hands.

I was outside whenI checked the scores at 65 minutes. I was prepared to make a long rant of how Newcastle is not ready for the vigours of European competition (i.e. a game every 2 to 4 days) when I saw the scores at 0 - 0. Then I returned home at about 90 minutes and saw the score at 2 - 0.

I'm still a little concerned though. Maybe they really are tired or something. I didn't see the match though so I'm probably wrong here.

Just saw the highlights and read the reports. According to the reports, Newcastle was mediocre in the first half but did well in the half that matters (the second). But I'm more concerned about how wonderful Benny's goal is.

Arsenal have got 3rd. You'd be deluded to think otherwise and the only reason they don't finish 3rd is a complete breakdown from here.

Tottenham are in s*** form, Chelsea have too many games and we're 2 points and a game down with a much harder run-in. I'd still say Spurs are favourite for 4th, with us 5th, but if we win at Chelsea that changes. Spurs would also need to reverse their slump.

I expect Arsenal to finish third, yes. They have two points, a game in hand, an okay run in (Wigan, Norwich, Chelsea at home, Wolves, Stoke, West Brom away), no distractions, and have won 8 of their last 9.

i expect chelsea to pull out 4th place, but it'd be wonderful if newcastle beat out both chelsea and spurs. as much as i don't like pardew, they've made some pretty brilliant signings this season, and they deserve a lot of credit for playing some pretty nice football.

certainly a lot more impressive than all the crap dalglish managed to spend like 50 million pounds on!

Yeah if it weren't for Pardew being an obnoxious little nitwit I'd be cheering totally for the Toon to get it. Them getting 4th in spite of Mike Ashley's terribleness would truly be a great story.

As is I want them to win it but don't really care who does get it as long as we keep 3rd (or get second??? :D)

To be fair about Newcastle, they're playing in the weakest EPL in recent memory. Everton signing a striker and Sunderland gaining a competent manager have both shown during those periods that they can more than mix it at that level too. Even with Arsenals early season capitulation and loss of their 2 best players last season they'll still be able to go on to record a relatively strong season.
Chelsea and Liverpool have been that bad this year and Spurs form has tumbled off a cliff, I'd be reluctant over praising Newcastle in that context.

no way man. we need the cushion of 6th place just in case. not that i don't believe we can stay at minimum 5th. but never hurt to have more of a good thing.

now onto the game last night. i've never seen alexander doni play that badly in his roma days (granted, his heyday is in roma). i blame that on ring rust and subsequently, on kenny for refusing to give him a chance, despite having played so many cup games and reina's poor form.

That's because Daglish is at best an average manager, everywhere he has got success is because the players came with the job or he spent ridiculous amounts of money, not good man management or tactics.
