I marathoned all the entries and totheark replies for the first time across the weekend (strictly in the afternoon, heading into night), and had a really fun time with it. I think the main thing it has going for it is how it maintains an apprehensive tone throughout while holding a 'roller coaster' pacing that works. For example, usually one intense entry with a prominent Operator appearance is followed up with a mellow one, but almost constantly you would feel the tension of a possible appearance. It has 'jump scares', but I never feel that it relies on them.
The abundant video and audio distortion, which I actually thought was pretty funny at the start, played a huge role in that. Every time there's a "tear" in the video, it's a blunt cue to be alarmed. And knowing exactly what's going on makes the earlier entries more freaky than when I first watched them.
Fantastic acting isn't something I really expect out of something like this, but I thought it was okay with only a couple exceptions. The shaky camera didn't bother me, and I know it may be part of the recording style, but I think less footage of the ground would improve it a little.
Overall, though, I'm looking forward to "season" 3, whenever that happens.
