Goku beats him at the Martial Arts Tournament, and then he's like "I'll get revenge for my father" and doesn't do anything for 5 years? They were pretty on par at the tourney, you'd think he'd have tried something. Hell at the time he was evil and he knew Goku was going to get married, he could have attacked Chi Chi or an infant Gohan to get revenge. Also, I had no idea Gohan was only 4 at the start of the Saiyan saga. I thought he was 8ish *shrug*.
For 5 years? The dude has no friends and no hobbies and it takes him 5 years to make up the Special Beam Cannon? I wonder how long it took Krillin to make the Destructo Disk.
I mean, he trained for 3 years after hatching to fight Goku, but he was physically a kid for a good chunk of that time and probably needed it. Taking 5 years to wait to fight your rival that you're on par with is silly.

But he's also human and a huge perv. He probably spent more time chasing skirts than he did actually training. Piccolo had nothing else to do but train. Hell the guy doesn't even eat. Do Namekians sleep? I doubt it since they can regenerate anyway. He's got all the time in the world on his hands.
