I know it was never really confirmed. But every time I see the episode of J.D.'s dad dying, it annoys me that they're wearing hockey jersey's while watching football. And Detroit jerseys at that. What the heck.

The fictional place that Sacred Heart is located in Scrubs is known as "San DiFrangeles". Which happens to be a mixture of the name "San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

I've always assumed it was in Northern California because J.D. talks about driving to Tacoma to see his son on his weekends off or whatever after he's born, so it can't be THAT far off.

"Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!"
That's exceedingly common. There are no dress codes for sports, and often times, if you have a jersey for one team, you can wear it to any sporting event. Go to a live football game and you'll see jerseys for most sports and likely a lot of jerseys for the same sport but for neither of the two teams there. I usually wear a Sharks jersey to most sporting events.
