Topic title says it all - I'm curious to see what people are listening on here at b8. I'm a bit of an audiophile, just started part one of my headphone buying guide on my site. I'm not looking for any content for that, just curious to see what people are using.

Personally, my intensive listening is done on my V-Moda M-80s, which is one of the best sounding sets out there. A lot of times I listen on a Creative Aurvana Live! set because they're some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. And when I'm using earbuds, I default to my Ultimate Ears Triple-Fis, though I have my eyes on a Unique Melody Miracle .. but those are about a grand and I can't afford that right now!

I used to have both some Bose wrap-arounds for serious listening and cheaper earbuds for exercising. I lost the Bose and actually just broke my earbuds a couple days ago. Went to Target and bought some $30 Sony earbuds to replace them and they actually sound quite nice, and fit beautifully.

Once I graduate and get a full-time job, a record player and a very nice set of wrap-arounds are gonna be my first luxury purchases.

Sennheiser CX300.

I just bought them a few weeks ago. I usually don't listen to music on the go but I was going on a trip and wanted something to listen to on the train other than the announcements about why we're an hour behind schedule.

I've heard that the Sennheiser CX300s are the best earbuds you can purchase for under $100. If I was willing to spend about $80 I would pick those up in a heartbeat.

Not in a hurry/sitting infront of a computer: V-Moda M-80's (by far better than the comparable line of Beats for the same price)

Otherwise: Tour Beats...or whatever they're called....the in-ear ones.

That's most definitely untrue in every way. The current street price for those are around $30 and there's much better IEMs you can get for that price. That being said, they're very comfortable and bass-heads like them a lot, which is where most headphones and earbuds get their reputation from. Not bad by any means, but I can name a ton that are better for that range and even more that are less than $100!

Sony does the mid-range better than most companies, so getting a pair of sony earbuds or circumaurals in the 15-60 dollar range is almost always a safe bet.

Even mentioning Beats in the same sentence as the M-80s is pretty much heresy. Beats aren't worth half their price. The studio beats put out about $40 worth of sound. In other words, $260 for the style and branding.

EDIT: Though I've never given a listen to their IEMs, so I dunno about the tour! Probably good though, I hear the build quality is phenomenal.

outoftreble.com is my site, yeah. I just started it two days ago. I had a music site for years, to go along with my in-print magazine, PUREnoize Mag, but as my music tastes changed, I stopped liking the name "purenoize" and, really, my partner was dragging his feet. We stopped the in-print edition and now we're done with it altogether. I kept most of my music contacts, though.

The new site is more laid back. I just write to write. I can afford to now, with all of the sports writing. I've decided it's going to be about high end audio as well as music.

Honestly, the in-ear beats are fairly good. Compared to the ~$100 pair of in-ear Shures I had I actually prefer the Beats and their cord is 100x better then the cord those Shures have. I'm sure there are better Shure in-ear but those would actually be more expensive than the Beats.

Yeah, Shure gets some pretty crazy/insanely good IEMs on the higher end. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the IEM Beats are good. I wanted to like the circumaural set so bad. I really did.

Yeah I knew it was outoftreble but my fingers apparently didn't cooperate. Outoftreble is a much better name than purenoize anyways, tbh. I'll keep an eye on the site though, I'm always looking for new places to find music.

The site layout is very solid. It's a little generic, but I'd prefer generic over hard to navigate 100% of the time. I can figure out where everything is from the get-go, which is a huge plus. The main thing I noticed, scanning through your headphone-buying guide article, is I didn't see any links attached to the headphones. And I moused over the headphone names, and realized that they actually were links. So I think you should make it more obvious when text in your article is a link out to something.

I have used those 750s .. SO GOOD. They sound amazing the louder you get. So clear when they're turned way up. Definitely on my list of headphones I need to have in my collection when it's all said and done. I had someone who was going to trade me straight-up for my Audio-Technica M50s, but I just couldn't do it. I should have, though.

I was thinking about just going with the orange - the accent color with the whole site - for the links. I haven't looked into it much yet, though. I'm trying for pretty minimal, and I'll be tying in images more, so they pop without all the distractions there.

Thanks!

For any other thoughts, I think they're durable as hell. They weren't very comfortable for me, but I was using a new pair and the material hadn't stretched at all.

The EM7 are definitely a classic. I dig em a lot. I'm not too familiar with Pioneer, so I've never tried those! One of my first sets was Pioneer though, a long time ago, I bought one of their entry level DJ sets and it made me realize I wanted to own a million pairs of headphones

On ear clips: Audio Technica ATH-EM7's. I was able to snag them used w/o the extension for a steal due to Persona 3 fans buying them without researching or even seeing if they like clips.

Personally I can't stand earbuds. I used to use several different over ear headphones for my old cryptolinguist job and only feel comfortable with over ear or on ear headphones now.

Yeah, if you buy random headphones, especially between $20 and $80, it's likely that you're just buying bloated bass machines.

On the PC: http://www.amazon.com/Force-Gaming-Headset-Amplified-Stereo-Pc/dp/B005DQG0BO/

I believe these are supposed to be mainly for the 360, but they work on PC. They're very comfortable and the long cord means I don't have to take them off when walking more than two feet away from my chair.

They replaced: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-Closed-Ear-Gaming-Headset/dp/B001E45XT4/

The old headset was also nice, but I ended up breaking the top part and wanted something a little more flexible, hense the current headset.

For earbuds I just get 5-10 dollar ones and buy new ones when they crap out on me in 6ish months. No idea what brand they are.

What do you mean by attaching piece? And how cheap? Just to be clear, are we talking full-size headphones here? I may already have a set in mind. Full-size just means on-ear, over-the-ear and around-the-ear.
