I think this was attempted sometime before and it could be difficult to keep alive because of different reading speeds, time constraints, etc. but I just wanted to see how many people would be interested in something like this.
This would generally be so we could get some discussion going about literature where we actually have some common ground. I was thinking something along the lines of one book a month, (depending on length) different genres, and all those extra details that could be worked out if there's some interest. =o
Okay so here's what I'm thinking so far concerning book choices. We could have everybody recommend a couple of titles, pool them together and vote on that or we could do it on a member by member basis where one person lists around five titles and we vote out of those choices. The next time to choose a book, another person lists five titles, and so on.
I don't believe this has ever worked here in the past. While I love reading I read way too slowly and have a huge backlog. Also way too busy with work right now. I'm out but good luck to you guys.

Sounds fun but I wonder if one can find books or even one book that -everyone- would like. Normally a book club has a certain focus/audience and -then- people join it. Or not.

At least we got beat by a SuperNiceDog, 2011 Rivals Guru Champ!
If I can borrow books at my schools library I'm in (I don't know if I can since I'm technically not a student there and thus don't even have a student card).

I think accessibility may be a bigger problem than likability here. One of things about book clubs is that you hope to get introduced to some new stuff that you wouldn't necessarily read outside of it. You definitely hope that other people will like the book too but it's about branching out.
As for accessibility, it seems we would just have to hope for the best. Some books are easily found at local libraries but there are some that even if your library has a copy and you place a hold on it, the wait list can be extremely long. There are alternatives like online versions or buying a copy yourself but online can be hit or miss and I don't want to force people to buy books that they might not want to.
I find I would be willing to read anything. And I think it would be good to pass the stick on book choices. Allow One or two people to choose X amount of books and than have one read.
My main concern with this is if we read books that are part of a series. Kinda would like to finish the series out?

I think if people wanted to finish the series out, they could do that on their own time as it doesn't seem fair to devote that much time to just one series with so much else out there.
