I guess I'm lucky when it comes to where I can shop from.
The closest thing to me is a K-Mart, not even 5 minutes from my house. But roughly 7-8 minutes from my house in another direction is a GameStop, a Best Buy, and a Wal-Mart, all which are 2 minutes walking distance from one another. Where I stand...
- I rarely buy games now, but when I do, it's normally from GameStop. The customer service there kicks ass, and it helps my rewards card rack up points. - BestBuy and K-Mart I normally wait until a good sale comes up, or in K-Mart's case, get a coupon; I got Red Dead Redemption five months after the game released for $20 at K-Mart thanks to a $20-off coupon. - Despite getting a 10% discount for working there, I sometimes can't stand shopping at Wal-Mart. Their game selection (our own store, especially) is a joke.

The majority of games older than 6 months are in that $30 range. Gamestop loves to keep that $55 price for quite some time.
So there have been three reasons listed as to why people shop at GameStop, now.
1. Rare games can be cheaper if you happen to find them there. 2. Recent games are about the same price, so convenience wins out. 3. Really old games are pretty much the cost of shipping alone.

I used to be all Gamestoppy, but now I'm all Amazonny. A Gamestop near me has a good price on Trinity Universe though, maybe I should get a piece of that action.
It seems like that many users don't know that "I'd buy it from a major chain game store (GameStop)" is also referring to other major chain game stores besides GameStop. GameStop was listed as an example in that poll option and yet some people think it's referring only to GameStop. Plus, not all countries have GameStop stores.
The Geolocation results for this poll seems to suggest that most voters aren't smart enough to realize that "I'd buy it from a major chain game store (GameStop)" is also referring to other major chain game stores besides GameStop.
But seriously, I think it's a huge victory that GameStop has lost about 9% between these 2 polls:

Nintendo games also get traded in the most because they hold their value longer. This is pretty common sense.
I can't believe you're saying you couldn't walk into a GameStop and likely find Zelda and Mario.
But, let's see. Amazon has...
Double Dash: Only 3 copies under or at $19.99. The rest are over. Twilight Princess: Only one copy at the same price as GameStop. The rest are well over. Melee: Zero copies under or at 14.99. Cheapest is 19.79. The rest are above. Wind Waker: No copies under or at 29.99. Cheapest is $5 more, before shipping.
GameStop, even if they don't have many of say, Double Dash... Keeps it at that price unless it suddenly becomes rare as f***. Amazon... You're at the mercy of the seller.

Btw, you can't claim Amazon sellers are selling those games at higher prices than GameStop because of "demand." Everything but Wind Waker is in stock on GameStop.com.

...That doesn't have anything to do with anything. I didn't say each game ONLY had 1-3 copies. I said they only had 1-3 copies at a price equal to or lower than GameStop. They had others, but they cost more, before shipping, even. If the only Melee available is $20, why would somebody hop on and sell it for $15, when they could be the "low" by simply selling it at $19.50? I don't think you get how profit works.
And the fact that Melee is, at cheapest, almost $5 on Amazon when it's in stock on Gamestop's website? Uh, well...

There's nothing wrong with going there for a deal but Amazon is cheaper most of the time and relating back to my original point about the poll that people go to Gamestop because it's what they always do and thus buy ALL their crap there where they're NOT saving money.

which actually applies to your last three posts: never said all games are $15 cheaper, I said 1000 games are cheaper, and my point about going to Gamestop was that people would always go there for some reason when there's much better alternatives.

I bought Trinity Universe from Gamestop today. But I did get Fallout 3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit from Amazon last week. And I'll probably get Dragon Age: Origins and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time from Amazon next week, so hopefully, that makes up for it.
