My roommate acquired a desktop PC for me. It only has 3 GB of DDR2 RAM and I want to know if I should install the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7. Are there any advantages of going with 32 or drawbacks of going with 64 with only 3 GB of RAM?

the 64 bit OS allows you to have more RAM for instance, you could have an amount of RAM that isn't obsolete.

I thought 3GB of RAM was pretty good.

Buy more ram (make sure it's the same specs as the one you have in it) and then install 64bit windows. If I recall correctly 32 bit caps you at 4gigs.

3GB of RAM on Windows 7 64-bit = the OS chews up 2/3 of that. It's still 1 GB for 32-bit. If you're adamant on Windows 7, you need 32-bit. IMO, get more RAM and 64-bit if you're going for Windows 7.
