This is a creepy looking survival horror game with pretty good graphics for an XBLA game. It looks like it's worth a try at least.
--- Choplifter HD XBLA/PSN $15 (1200 MSP)
Some 2D sidescrolling action type game. It looks potentially fun, but the $15 price tag for it will probably put me off. Seems like the prices should be reversed this week!
-------------------------------------- --DEMOS--
FFXIII-2 (Jan 10 for PS3, Jan 11 for Xbox 360) Asura's Wrath- (Jan 10th for both)
I'm not sure what the FFXIII-2 demo will feature. Asura's Wrath will feature 2 chapters...
Chapter 5 (E3)
Chapter11 (TGS)
FFXIII should be fun to check out, Asura's Wrath though is obviously a little more intriguing since it's a new IP.

Amy is going to prove that classic survival horror can exist in a next-gen world.
And it will be glorious.

Asura's Wrath... this is the first game I've ever played that really captures that epic feel of a DBZ battle, all the back and forths and such. It's kind of cool in that regard.
The gameplay is so QTE based though, Im not sure how much I could stand. This definitely doesn't look like a full price purchase, but maybe for $20-$30 down the road.

FFXIII-2... not a fan of some of the changes I saw. A few minor things but they bothered me. First off, the boss fight, it was taking forever to stagger him, then it was the QTE that made it happen. I hope thats not a trend for every boss.
also, the preemptive strike thing is reaaally easy early on, hopefully it gets more challenging.
having a map and exploration is "whatever" for me. I dont think it really enhances the game, but I don't think it hurts it either. The battles are still great once they get going. adding monsters to the battle adds some customization and depth to things imo. I'll probably wait and see how reviewers describe certain things before buying it, but odds are I will buy it way before I buy Asura's Wrath.

I played them both. FFXIII-2 seemed fine to me. The gameplay seemed like it remained intact and there was a jump button!!! I was pretty much always going to get the game, this just confirmed that it wasn't going to be some kind of complete disaster or something. RPG demos are kinda tough to judge anyway because they throw you right into the middle of the game without any kind of point of reference as to what's going on. It's information overload.
Asura's Wrath was dumb. I don't mean that in an entirely negative way, but I don't think I have it in me to play QTE: The Game.

Yeah I agree. I love how the board is all hyped for Asura's Wrath, I mean man, FF13 may have been a controlled experience, but that takes it to another level, almost 0 gameplay freedom.
Like I said, just feeling like I'm playing DBZ might be enough to get me to spend a budget price, but thats about it.
time to try AMY and choplifter!

eh not a fan of Amy. The dialogue is awful, and the gameplay is pretty bad too. The story and scares might be enough for some people to like it though.

AMY is hilarious. Everyone needs to try the demo, if only to see the black train conductor at the beginning. This voice work plus bad animation plus bad frame rate at the beginning is amazing. The actual isn't so bad, I have some extra points laying around and maybe the story gets crazy enough to be fun as well.

Every since the game AMY came out yesterday on XBLA, there have been many comments and reviews denouncing it. They criticize the graphics, controls, gameplay, and I believe even the story (though my vague interest in the game kept me from reading those spoiler sections). After I have played the demo, I can't say they are wrong. They might be a bit more zealous or extreme in their distaste of the those particular parts, but they aren't exactly good anyway. But I find that there is no way to take any of that seriously. I have come out of playing this game realizing that this is a parody unlike anything I have seen before in a video game. It hits every note perfectly, every design choice done in a way that it's nearly impossible to think that this wasn't done intentionally.
Right as the game starts you realize right then and there what you're in for. It starts on a train, with the player character Lana trying to contact someone via future cell phone with the title character Amy sitting next to her. A voice off-camera tells her she's not going to get a signal, and then we see him. It's a black train conductor or ticketmaster come to check on Lana and Amy. This conductor is hilarious. The fact that he's black does play a role in this. His voice is amazing because it doesn't sound black. Not in there "oh this is someone trying to do a black voice", no this is like if this character was supposed to be white but changed in the last second. It doesn't fit at all, and it's absurd. That's not all, the lip synching on every character but especially this conductor is horrendous. I mean, this is like when a show does a dubbed godzilla parody level of bad. Not to mention, the frame rate in this scene is abysmal, and this is the only scene from the demo that has this problem.
This scene, and this conductor character, play like it's a comedy. It is impossible to take it seriously, and to be honest I don't think we're supposed to. The developers HAD to have done this intentionally, if they hadn't then this is insane that it can be done so badly so well not on purpose. The conversation with the conductor gives some backstory, Amy is somehow mentally ill and because of that she cannot speak. It's also close to Christmas. Well, Christmas Eve actually as the conductor says the "Big Red Slave Driver is commin' tonight". After the conductor takes his low frame rate and leaves, Lana gives Amy a Christmas present: some sort of future tablet she can draw on. Lana mentions a place called the Phoenix Center, apparently a place Amy used to live but Lana saved her from. It's hard to concentrate on this conversation when you look outside the train's window and see that the outside is apparently a horrible low-res tom and jerry cartoon with the same single tree consistently flying by. The graphics on everything else look decent, but this outside looks BAD.
The scene ends with Lana finally getting into contact with someone and Amy starting to draw. As the conversation gets more heated, Lana looks over to see what Amy draws and, it's hilarious. It's a scene of people dying and buildings on fire, but it's SO badly-done and so cliche that it's just funny. Lana and the caller then react to an explosion that happens outside. We're left to just assume the explosion happened since we don't get to visibly SEE it happen outside. Unless that bad-looking sunset is supposed to be it, which would be pretty funny.
I could go on, but needless to say the demo continues with this hilarious cliche-ridden ride throughout the whole thing. The ending of the demo solidifies to me that this is a parody, what happens there cannot be taking place seriously.
