It makes it really difficult to figure out how to handle selling the stuff on Ebay.
"Yeah the game doesn't have a scratch on it, everything is in the box, even the ****ty ads it came with, but the online pass has been used, so...'Good' Condition".
Ugh.
The worst offenders are games like Reach that put a big ass label right on the front of the box.
This has been LtM venting about unimportant **** nobody cares about #413. Sorry.

From: Weakupedia | #002 so basically it makes it harder for you to lie about the condition of the game!
The game is in perfect condition!
And I've tried putting a big ass label at the bottom that says that it's near mint but the online pass isn't included, but as I near 100 items sold, I've come to find that a disturbing number of people just don't read anything past the price.
It's EBay, how the hell do you not read the description?!

From: KimPine | #004 What the hell is this? I've never even seen an "Online Pass."
Really? It's the thing where people who buy the game new get something extra (good implementation), or more often it's when people who don't buy the game new have to pay an extra $10 for a basic game feature like online play (more common implementation).

mainly just sports games that did it 2 years ago. First non-sports game I could recall having one was Dead Space 2. Probably one earlier than that though!
Also I think it's fine to say "perfect" condition on a used game, since you would be stupid to expect a new-only bonus from a used game, but you can't say it's "new" obviously.

If it's missing the online pass, you cannot say it is "like new" or in "perfect" condition. Perfect condition means that the item retains all of its original value. Since it is missing a ~$10 component, "Good" is pretty much the best you can use.

My Japanese alter-ego. Hey all this is Bartz btw.
I really wish they wouldn't put that Online Pass stuff directly on the game box.
Better idea: do away with this online pass ****. It's ridiculous.
But somehow I end up buying Madden every year >_>

It's not ridiculous. It's a marketing idea and a way for the company to make up loses from used sales. If nobody bought games used, they wouldn't do it!

From: PrivateBiscuit1 | #017 Just let it be known that anyone who complains about them are wrong and children.
Eh, it depends. To say it's evil and straight up bad is wrong and childish, but to argue that there are better ways to achieve the same goal is a valid argument. Online pass/project 10 dollar isn't an ideal solution.
From: Shoenin_Kakashi | #021 Battlefield had this pass crap. Ironically, MW3 didnt
Yeah MW3 just charged everyone $15 upfront to get the DLC instead of only charging the used/latecomers. Way better.
Oh, you mean like the download codes? To me it sounded like you were talking about something that's on the game box that you might have to scratch off to reveal a code or something. Seemed like it was something that damaged the case, not just a label that says it comes with downloadable content.
