I appreciate Psych's humor but its levity hurts it at times. Also Simon Baker as Patrick Jane is probably one of the best casting decisions of the past decade. I know The Mentalist has its flaws, but Jane is such a bastard in all the best ways.

I "like" House.

In the same way I like a lot of things. House is such a bastardization of Sherlock Holmes though.

House isn't meant to be a Holmes adaptation though. It's inspired by it, but hey Hercule Poirot was inspired by Holmes and he's about as far off from Holmes as you can be outside "he's smart." Can't really call it a bastardization of Holmes when he isn't meant to be him.

Now, you want a bastardization of Holmes? Look no further.

Also House is not meant to be an adaptation but they make so many references to him in the earlier seasons it is more than a passing mention.

You want your innocence back? So do I, so do I. I actually sat through the entire thing. It's even worse than it looks. Much worse.

I think I've seen every Holmes adaptation ever. Hell, I even have "Young Sherlock Holmes" in DVD. Which is not as bad as it sounds...for the first 45 minutes. Then it goes to hell.

Yeah, they definitely do make a ton of references to Holmes in the earlier seasons. The guy who shot House was even called "Moriarty" in the credits I think. Which is a waste of a name. Why call a one off character Moriarty? They should have given that name to a better antagonist. Still, I wouldn't say that those references make the writers obligated to make House a complete Holmes parallel.

I liked Young Sherlock Holmes actually. Sure it kind of exploded but you know, they tried. I like effort.

Also Haguile my dear man, you believe Moriarty was a one shot character? Fell for his manipulations I see. Moriarty, you see, is not a mere man, he is an idea. This idea, the perversion of civilization itself, has festered within House for years now. Moriarty's plan was only just beginning!

But anyway any writer who has the audacity to even make a whiff of the great Holmes and then make House such a bumbling fool is not worth my respect.

Young Sherlock Holmes just seemed to me like they tried to make a good Holmesian movie then halfway through a producer said "Hang on, we need explosions or else this won't sell. Also, Spielberg really wants to use this new CG thing so...uh yeah. Put an explosive cult or something into the plot." Then after the explosions it immediately returned to being a Holmesian movie(when it had like 5 minutes left) by giving Holmes a reason not to be interested in romance, giving birth to Moriarty and that lovely note at the end about how the movie didn't fit with canon. That was nice of them.

Hey, I wouldn't put anything past Moriarty. The man clearly manipulated Watson's mind, since he knows who he is in Valley of Fear but completely forgets who he is by the time they get to Final Problem. I can believe that a one-off character in House with the same name is a master manipulator of everything.

I can understand your opinion on the House writers though.

The Holmes movies? Hmm...

Detective Conan > Doctor Who > Sherlock > Monk > The Mentalist > Psych > First Holmes Movie> End Game > Second Holmes Movie>House

Both movies suffer from "this is totally not Sherlock Holmes just a guy with his quirks" syndrome, but they are still good and reasonably loyal to Holmes. They are not the best, but still decent.

Any of BBC Sherlock's episodes blows them both out of the water though.

And WTF Bartz with this hate of Psych.

Although the premise is nice and the show had plenty of potential, James Roday is completely insufferable as the lead in this show. His smug superiority that is not mocked but instead glorified is almost as appalling as the constant obscure pop-culture references that are thrown in just for the sake of being pop-culture references, attempting to fool the viewer into thinking the show is funny and witty when it is actually just incomprehensible.

Psych represents one of the worst aspects of modern television, and that is the constant pandering and insistances of "Watch me, I'm funny" without doing anything in the show that is genuinely funny. Every laugh feels forced, as if there is some silent force saying, "you should laugh here, this line is a joke." I'll give them credit though; most shows have to use a laugh track to do this.

At it's peak, House would probably be top of this list for me (haven't seen Sherlock or End Game). But it's gone so far past its prime that I finally gave up this season, and I'd probably put it last right now.

I'd also put Psych over Mentalist.

So, from what I've seen...

Early House > Early Monk Psych > Mentalist > Late Monk (didn't see that much though save the finale) > Late House

I think when people talk about how a show was better in early seasons but got so much worse later, it's usually because they're just tired of the show.

I've gotten tired as hell of Monk, Psych and House, but I don't think it's from an actual quality drop, just fatigue. Doesn't help that USA always shows them in marathon form, ensuring that people get sick of them even faster.

And I really need to watch Sherlock.
