It makes more sense. They're trying to get rid of the whole underpants thing completely, so naturally that would include movies. Batman Begins and the Dark Knight did it before the comics.

It's not the lack of "underpants" that makes the costume look weird, it's just that it's all a continuous streak of BLUE. In the comics, he at least wears a big belt. The movie outfit needs something so it doesn't just look like he's wearing big one-piece pajamas.
