Haven't played the custom levels, but putting the checkpoint in a place that forces you to go through an unnecessary conveyor belt section before getting to the actual challenge is a dick move.

you enter from the bottom, the right is the challenge and the left is the path to continue the level

it's true that you originally enter from the bottom, but captain viridian is actually standing on top of the relevant checkpoint on the bottom screencap.

You can see right in that image there's a spot on the very first screen of that segment that lacks a spike and lets you skip the entire challenge and still get the trinket. I wonder if they ever fixed that.
