This will be a bracket-voting contest held on Bracketmaker or Challonge or whatever the cool kids are doing nowadays.
Nominations Results:
- Approximately 337 unique organizations were nominated for 128 spots in the bracket. Organizations needed at least 3 votes to contend for a spot in the bracket, and 4 for automatic qualification. - I won't bother listing the 204 organizations to receive only 1 or 2 votes each, but better luck next time I guess - In the end, 34 organizations had to contend for the final 29 spots, due to the high voter turnout in the nominations process. The 5 losers are this contest's first Honorable Mentions.
Honorable Mentions: These each received 3 votes in the nominations topic but failed the Lightning Round Seeding phase. T-129: Brute Squad (The Princess Bride) T-129: Ministry of Silly Walks (Monty Python) T-129: Mr. Westing's Organization (Top Secret) T-129: Starfleet (Star Trek) T-129: Wolfram and Hart (Angel)
Seeding is complete, and the bracket will be up sometime later today.

I didn't know about this contest until just now but I totally would've seconded ministry of silly walks and tornadolayzers

Some close matches today. Ginyu Force had a tough draw there. It was one of the runaway favorites in the nomination period, but it couldn't handle the under-seeded Jedi Order.

I've noticed a few people voting here and there who I don't recognize. This is totally fine. Obviously I don't know every user on the board, and all are welcome to vote. Also I really don't have any real reason to believe anyone is alt-voting, and I'm not doing any kind of investigation of changing any votals whatsoever. But some of these accounts were created years ago and some very recently, and certain accounts both old and new have very low karma and no identifiers in their sig related to an original account (in fact, sometimes no sigs at all). To my knowledge the sum of the votes from these users I don't recognize wouldn't have swayed matches one way or the other (though I could be very wrong and haven't been counting these every day), so I haven't been bothering to point them out, especially since I'd like to avoid accusing someone of being an alt if they're not. But I'm starting to be a little more wary. If you think you're one of the users I'm talking about, and you're not an alt, sorry if this embarrassed you, and welcome to my contest - thanks for voting, and please keep participating if you're having fun! If you see any suspicious activity or spy a known alt, let me know. And if perchance you have been alt-voting or considering alt-voting, please remember it's just really not necessary or in the spirit of this contest. Let's keep it fun for everyone. Thanks! -Bokonon

With Foxhound going down, looks like the Power Rangers will roll, probably until a showdown with the X-Men. That should be a fun match.
Funny how the 1-seeds very nearly went 0-for-2 in the second round there so far (and Organization XIII is taking an early beating as we speak). Team Rocket barely scraped by. Not sure who'll win that division - MIB might be a contender; Mystery Inc has been impressive; Team Rocket will always get votes.
I don't see the Koopa Troop having as much of a problem this round, though it'll have some rough matches later on. I really like the Mushroom Division - lots of entries I like are in it.

Yeah. Some of it is a consequence of strong entrants being nominated too late in the game to accrue enough secondings. But considering the large amount of nominations for some of the 1- and 2-seeds, it's difficult to account for their relative weakness.
There are definitely a number of entrants that people wouldn't think to nominate but would gladly vote for. When people think of organizations from Pokemon, for example, they might not think of the Pokemon League right away. It's all about Team Rocket, and perhaps the Gyms (notably, no Pokemon Gyms were actually nominated). It's just a little bit hard to think of organizations sometimes when the source material doesn't focus as much on the organizations themselves. But obviously, Pokemon fans are going to vote for the Pokemon League if they see it.
I think I would have liked to extend the nominations process a bit. People were still thinking of new ideas towards the end of the topic, and I think a lot of good ideas were snubbed because we didn't have enough time. Brainstorming for this is just a little bit harder than for a character contest.
All in all, I did expect lots of upsets for these sorts of reasons. The Foot Clan a 22-seed? The Green Lantern Corps a 23-seed? The Jedi Order a 30-seed? lulz.
It's fun, though. Some high-seeds remain, and some powerful but overlooked low-seeds are making an impact. I was sad to see the Corleone Family (31-seed) go; I thought it had potential. I like a degree of unpredictability. I really don't have a clue what'll win, and whether the winning organization will be "serious" or "silly".
